On Christmas Eve 1990, former NYC police officer John McClane anxiously awaits the arrival of his wife, Holly, at Dulles International Airport. This day marks a significant moment, two years after the Nakatomi Tower incident that changed their lives forever.

While in the airport bar, McClane notices two men dressed in Army fatigues acting suspiciously. His instincts urge him to follow them into the baggage area, setting off a chain of violent events.

A chaotic shootout ensues in the baggage area as McClane confronts the men. During the exchange, he manages to kill one of the suspects, Oswald Cochrane, but the other escapes, intensifying the urgency of the situation.
