What Happens in Security: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Security (2017) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Antonio Banderas as Eddie Deacon, a former Marine Corps Security Captain, steps into a job as a mall security guard and quickly becomes the steady, protective center of a tight-knit team: Liam McIntyre as Vance, Gabriella Wright as Ruby, Chad Lindberg as Mason, and Jiro Wang as Johnny. Meanwhile, a US Marshal convoy transporting a girl named Jamie is ambushed by mercenaries. Katherine de la Rocha as Jamie escapes and seeks refuge at the mall.

Mercenary leader Ben Kingsley as Charlie arrives with a brash demand to retrieve Jamie, offering bribes to the guards. Eddie refuses, and Charlie warns that he and their families will be executed if Jamie isn’t delivered.

To defend the mall, Eddie and the guards rig the space with homemade bombs and traps. They stall the mercenaries and hold their ground through a tense, brutal fight; Johnny is killed by a sniper while signaling for police, and Ruby is mortally wounded while trying to help Vance escape. As more US Marshals arrive, Eddie notices the mercenary tattoo on their necks and takes them down. Mason is killed, and Vance is badly wounded and presumed dead.

Determined to get Jamie to safety, Eddie sends her to radio for help. He is then ambushed by Charlie’s second-in-command Dead Eyes, Cung Le. Eddie disables the mercenaries’ radio jammer with a trike kept inside the mall and then defeats Dead Eyes and the sniper using a pistol that Vance had hidden in his car. Charlie eventually finds Jamie in the mall, but she shocks him with a taser, and Eddie finishes Charlie with a headshot from Vance’s pistol.

Police arrive to secure Jamie’s safety, and the truth comes out: Vance is alive. Jamie tells Eddie that his daughter is lucky to have a father like him, and the film closes on a tender reunion as Eddie is finally reunited with his wife and daughter.

Security Plot Explained: Your Questions Answered

The questions people ask most about Security (2017): what happens in the confusing scenes, why the characters do what they do, the twists, hidden details and what the ending means. Each answer contains spoilers.

Q1

Why do the mercenaries want Jamie so badly?

The mercenaries need Jamie because she is a witness scheduled to testify in an upcoming trial. Her testimony could implicate powerful people, so her employers sent the mercenary team led by Charlie to eliminate her before she can testify. This is why they ambushed the US Marshal convoy transporting her and then relentlessly pursued her into the mall.

Foreshadowing: The opening convoy ambush establishes immediately that Jamie is a high-value target worth killing multiple law enforcement officers.

This threat raises the stakes significantly and shows the guards that the mercenaries will use any means necessary to complete their mission.

Eddie notices mercenary tattoos on the necks of the supposed US Marshals who arrive during the siege. This reveals that they are actually mercenaries posing as law enforcement, sent to finish the job of capturing or killing Jamie. Eddie takes them down before they can reach Jamie.

Foreshadowing: The earlier ambush already showed that the mercenaries were well-equipped and organized enough to kill real marshals.
