John Gray, Sean Patrick Flanery, is an actor in a Far West time-tourist village named Profit, near a small town. He leads an eventless life with his on-and-off girlfriend Sharon, Tanya Allen; his friends and coworkers Tim, Tyler Labine, and Pablo, Alonso Oyarzun; and his mentor Gus, Robert Forster.

One night, two bikers led by Bart, Lou Diamond Phillips, rob the town’s bar and severely beat the barman. After they left, John decides to call the police, against the advice of Bart. No one else in the bar volunteers to help, fearing revenge. The next day in Profit, John spots the two goons walking down the street and makes a citizen’s arrest. They are then taken by the Sheriff Cal, Garry Chalk, and locked in a cell. He allows Bart to make a phone call, summoning the rest of the gang. The other bikers arrive to the town and kill the sheriff and his deputy, in order to free Bart from his cell.

As night falls, John returns home after dropping Sharon at her house. The gang opens fire on him in his car. He escapes and heads to Gus’s isolated trailer for help. A shootout erupts between John and the bikers; all but two of the thugs are shot, with one escaping to warn the others. Bart is captured and placed in the trunk of John’s pickup. They drive to the police station, only to find the two bodies. Realizing the danger, they split up. Gus heads to town to phone the police, only to discover the lines are dead. Meanwhile, John drives to a mine with Bart, ties him to a shaft, and waits for authorities.

Back in Profit, Gus leads a group of four thugs toward the mine, but they are ambushed by John. All of the goons die, and Gus is shot in the leg. The other inhabitants of Profit are rounded up in a large cell inside the fake police station of the Far West village. John returns to the village to negotiate with King, Hugh Dillon, for an exchange between Bart and Sharon. While the deal unfolds, John and Sharon escape in the pickup truck, and Gus kills the few bikers who were watching the captives to free everybody. When he asks for volunteers to fight when the others return, Tim and Pablo reluctantly join. The rest of the gang comes back and a final shootout erupts, culminating in a duel between John and Bart, during which John shoots Bart in the arm, leaving him disabled.

Some time later, Profit continues to operate with new additions: John’s story is loosely adapted as an Old West tale and performed for tourists.
