Embracing his new mission, Russell adopted the alias 'John Hull' and descended into the world of drug dealing as a low-level dealer. This transformation marked the beginning of his dangerous infiltration into a notorious drug network led by Anton Gallegos.

Russell began dealing cocaine and rapidly climbed the ranks within Gallegos’ operation. However, his journey faced complications when he encountered LAPD Narcotics Detective Taft and his partner Hernández, who were wary of his true intentions.

During a pivotal court arraignment, Russell uncovered a shocking truth: the drugs he had been dealing were actually baby laxatives disguised as cocaine. This revelation led to the dismissal of his case, propelling him deeper into the drug trade.

After the court incident, David Jason, a figure within Gallegos’ network, became entangled in Russell's life, providing him with a new drug supply. Jason also introduced Russell to Felix Barbosa, Gallegos’ ruthless underboss.

Russell's life became increasingly complicated as he developed a romantic relationship with Betty McCutcheon, manager of an art dealership that served as a front for laundering drug money. This relationship duelled with the demands of his undercover role and the dangerous drug trade.

The murder of one of Russell's dealers forced him to confront the brutal realities of the drug world. Driven by vengeance, he exacted revenge on the responsible party, which led him further down the treacherous path of violence and retribution.

Russell and Jason partnered in a new endeavor centered around a synthetic variant of cocaine, increasing Russell's involvement in the drug trade. This partnership ignited inner conflict as Russell wrestled with his father's legacy and the life he had tried to reject.

Tensions escalated when Russell uncovered Barbosa's hidden agenda to oust Jason from their business arrangement. The betrayal prompted a series of actions that put all of them in a precarious position, culminating in an ill-fated arrest attempt.

As Russell plotted with Jason to strike first against Gallegos, they seized over $100 million in cash intended for their synthetic cocaine plan. Their audacious move led them to approach Guzmán, proposing a partnership that would alter the course of their operation.
