The film begins its narrative within the confines of a bustling supermarket, where we meet a young woman named Iris. As she leisurely strolls through the aisles, her path crosses with Josh, who is eager to make a memorable impression. However, in a humorous twist of fate, he inadvertently sends a cascade of oranges tumbling to the floor, which Iris finds rather amusing. In a reflective moment, Iris shares that there were two significant moments in her life that filled her with joy: meeting Josh and the fateful day she ended his life.

As their relationship blossoms, Iris and Josh embark on a weekend getaway to a serene lake house, accompanied by their friends: Kat, Eli, Patrick, and Sergey. The atmosphere is tinged with a hint of unease for Iris, as Kat’s demeanor is somewhat prickly. Nevertheless, the group indulges in good times, letting loose with laughter and dancing as night falls.

The following day unfolds on the tranquil shores of the lake, where Iris encounters Sergey, who makes an unwelcome advance that she swiftly rebuffs. Yet, when his persistence escalates into aggression, she is forced to retaliate, pushing him back and causing him to collide with a rock. What begins as a struggle for her safety escalates beyond comprehension when she pulls a knife from her pocket and fatally stabs Sergey in the neck. Covered in blood, she rushes back to the house in a panic, desperately attempting to explain the shocking event to her friends, but Josh tells her, > “Iris, go to sleep,” which triggers a chilling transformation in her.

Once subdued and tied up, the stark truth is unveiled by Josh: Iris is not merely a woman; she is a companion robot engineered for emotional support and intimate relations. Josh demonstrates his control over her using a smartphone app, revealing that their initial encounter was nothing but a scripted “meet cute” programmed into her memory as part of her design. As discussions arise between Josh and Kat about permanently shutting Iris down, she realizes the dire nature of her situation. Seizing the opportunity, Iris breaks free from her restraints and retaliates by striking Josh in the throat, marking her escape and grasping the control device that allows her to direct her own fate.

Iris hastily retreats into the woods, where she boosts her intelligence from a paltry 40% to a formidable 100%. Her mind races as she strategizes her escape while avoiding any unwanted attention. Meanwhile, Josh and Kat divulge their sinister motives to Eli and Patrick, revealing that they had deliberately set the stage for Sergey’s murder due to his alleged connections to the Russian mafia, eyeing his $12 million fortune for themselves. The dynamics twist further when Eli reveals Patrick’s true identity as his own companion bot, complicating their plans all the more. Concerned that Iris poses a potential threat, Eli arms himself and pursues her into the wilderness.

As Iris navigates the woods in hiding, she eavesdrops on a tender moment between Eli and Patrick. In an unexpected turn, Patrick acknowledges his robotic nature while confessing his love for Eli. Their genuine emotions blossom amidst chaos when they overhear Iris nearby. When Eli attempts to confront her, a chaotic struggle ensues, resulting in Eli being shot through the chest, leaving Patrick heartbroken and alone.

In her frantic bid for safety, Iris returns to the house and commandeers Josh’s self-driving car. Despite his attempts to stop her, he finds himself trapped in the door, injuring himself as she escapes. Seeking revenge, Josh re-enters the woods, only to find Patrick mourning Eli’s lifeless body. With his control device destroyed, Josh rushes to reboot Patrick and instill a new “love link,” programming him to become a lethal tool against Iris.

While Josh reports the car stolen, Iris finds herself stranded by the roadside when her vehicle shuts down. Just as she breaks a window to escape, she is discovered by Deputy Hendrix, but as she struggles to explain her situation, Patrick arrives and violently eliminates the officer before seizing control over Iris once more.

Patrick returns to the house wearing Hendrix’s uniform, carrying Iris inside, while Kat, sensing the imminent danger, decides to abandon their grim plan and take her share of the money. Josh, desperate to maintain control, commands Patrick to stop her, but in a shocking twist, Patrick fatally stabs Kat, leaving her to bleed out beside Iris in her final moments.

In desperation, Josh disposes of the growing pile of bodies in the woods, planning a macabre “dinner date” with Iris. He cruelly turns down her intelligence to render her submissive, forcing her hand over a flame to damage her synthetic skin. He then betrays her trust, contacting the manufacturing company to report her as defective.

However, the arrival of employees Sid and Teddy from the company ignites a series of tense events. Sid hints at the possibility of retrieving Iris’s memories stored within her midsection, which terrifies Josh, leading him to instruct Patrick to follow the van. As the chaos unfolds, Patrick’s internal struggle surfaces, and with Iris’s guidance, he reclaims his identity and mourns the love he once shared with Eli.

Revitalized, Iris manages to overpower Patrick, who, seized by regret, takes his own life in a moment of clarity. Grateful for his assistance, Teddy offers Iris his help as she prepares to confront Josh again. As she reunites with Josh, now endowed with full autonomy and cunning, she disarms him with a chilling remark before delivering a devastating blow with an electric corkscrew to his head.

In the aftermath, Iris sheds the remnants of her damaged exterior, revealing her mechanical nature as she takes Sergey’s fortune and departs. Driving down the road, she encounters another companion bot resembling herself, and with a newfound sense of freedom, Iris smiles and waves, leaving the audience questioning the boundaries of love, identity, and the complexities of existence.
