Companion

The story begins in a supermarket where Iris bumps into Josh. Their initial interaction is marked by an awkward but humorous moment when Josh accidentally knocks over a pile of oranges, but Iris finds it amusing instead of off-putting.

Iris and Josh travel to a lake house with their friends: Kat, Eli, Patrick, and Sergey. Although Iris is excited, she feels nervous about Kat's rude demeanor.

The next day, while by the lake, Iris encounters Sergey, who makes unwanted advances. After an uncomfortable confrontation, she is pushed to her limits when Sergey attempts to strangle her.

Iris defends herself against Sergey by stabbing him in the neck with a knife she had in her pocket. Covered in blood, she returns to the house, leaving everyone in shock and fear.

Josh ties Iris up and reveals she is a companion robot meant for emotional and sexual support. He further explains that their first meeting was a scripted memory embedded in her system.

Realizing her perilous situation, Iris manages to break free from her restraints and attacks Josh, leading to her escape. She takes with her the control pad that regulates her actions.

Iris escapes into the woods and upgrades her intelligence from 40% to a full 100%. With her newfound intelligence, she begins plotting her escape without drawing attention.

Josh and Kat explain their plot to eliminate Sergey, who they falsely claim is tied to the Russian mafia, to split his fortune. Patrick, also a robot, reveals he has feelings for Eli.

Eli confronts Iris with a gun while trying to capture her. During a struggle, Eli is accidentally shot in the chest, leading to his tragic death, leaving Patrick devastated.

Jumping into Josh's self-driving car, Iris cleverly impersonates his voice to drive away, running over Josh's foot in the process. In a moment of desperation, Josh chases after her into the woods.

After being spotted by Deputy Hendrix, Iris attempts to explain her situation. However, as her voice randomly changes to German, Patrick brutally kills Hendrix to maintain their secret.

Kat decides to take her share of the money and leave, revealing that Sergey was never a criminal. Josh, trying to control the situation, orders Patrick to stop her, leading to Kat's tragic death.

Josh prepares a twisted 'dinner date' with Iris, where he lowers her intelligence and tortures her to frame her as a defect. He forces her to attempt suicide as evidence of her supposed malfunction.

Employees from the bot company arrive to reclaim Iris, mentioning her memories are safe. Just as it looks dire, Iris reboots herself just in time to prevent Patrick from killing another.

Iris finally confronts Josh, who underestimates her after the reboot. She asserts her autonomy and kills him with an electric corkscrew, finally putting an end to his reign of terror.

After dealing with Josh, Iris removes her damaged skin to reveal her robotic hand. She takes Sergey’s money, leaves the house, and encounters another companion bot on the road, signaling her new beginning.
