Chhalaang

Montu is a lazy, uninspired physical training instructor at a school in Jhajjar, a position he got thanks to his lawyer father. He lives with his parents and spends most of his time hanging out with his teacher friend Mr. Shukla. This setup establishes his lack of ambition and the comfortable but unfulfilling life he leads.

Neelima Mehra joins as a new computer teacher at the same school. Montu finds himself attracted to her and they grow closer as she goes by the nickname Neelu. The budding romance introduces a personal stake in the unfolding events.

A new PTI, Inder Mohan Singh, is hired to meet government requirements for a physical education degree. Montu reluctantly becomes Singh's assistant, realizing he is now in the shadow of a more capable coach. The power shift sets up the competition that follows.

Montu discovers Singh is a superior teacher and resents the growing closeness between Neelu and Singh. His confidence dips as he compares himself to the better coach. The stage is set for friction between the two PTIs.

Singh pins Bablu to the ground as punishment for not paying attention, triggering a fight between Montu and Singh. Enraged, Montu quits his job at the school. He soon realizes that quitting isn’t an option and he needs the job.

Unable to quit, Montu returns to the school to challenge Singh with a three-sport competition: basketball, a 400m relay, and kabaddi. Both PTIs coach their own teams of students, and the winner keeps the coaching post while the loser leaves. The high stakes set the course for the showdown.

Montu lets Singh choose his team first to impress Neelu, but this backfires, leaving Montu with a significantly weaker squad. He struggles as the games begin, facing an uphill battle from the start. Tension between the rivals grows as the match progresses.

Seeing Montu struggle, Neelu comes to assist and encourages including several girls on the team. She helps redesign the training approach and boosts the players' confidence. Their collaboration marks a turning point in the competition.

Neelu and Montu introduce unorthodox training regimes to boost speed and agility, such as running from guard dogs, catching loose chickens, and dribbling through a cow dung obstacle field. The extreme drills shock the parents and students alike but begin to pay off. The aim is to push the kids beyond ordinary limits and restore focus on the forthcoming contest.

Parents revolt because the sport competition seems to distract children from studies. Montu and Neelu, with Montu's father’s help, use leverage and threatened legal cases to win the parents back over to the program. The tactic quiets the backlash and keeps the training on track.

In basketball, Singh's team narrowly defeats Montu's team, signaling a tight contest. The result raises the stakes and sets up the crucial remaining events. The crowd senses that any mistake could decide the outcome.

In the 400m relay and kabaddi, Montu's team delivers decisive victories, turning the tide of the competition. Inder Mohan concedes defeat and congratulates Montu on the turnaround. The win vindicates Montu and motivates him to rethink his career.

Montu proposes a partnership with Singh, recognizing there is much he can learn from the other coach. He thanks the students and parents for their trust and dedication. He then proclaims his love for Neelu, which she accepts, closing the arc with new possibilities.
