Anirudh “Anni” Pathak, Sushant Singh Rajput, is a divorced middle-aged man who lives with his teenage son, Raghav Pathak, Mohammad Samad, an aspiring engineer waiting for his entrance exam results to join the National College of Technology. On the eve of the results, Anni buys a bottle of champagne to celebrate with his son, not realizing how much pressure Raghav is carrying. The next day, while waiting for his results at a friend’s apartment, Raghav discovers he hasn’t qualified for the IIT-JEE, and the fear of being branded a “loser” gnaws at him. Overwhelmed, he slips from a balcony in a desperate bid for relief, barely surviving but left in a critical state. Anni rushes to the hospital to be with his ex-wife Maya Pathak, Shraddha Kapoor, who accuses him of missing the warning signs of her son’s distress. Dr. Sunit Dev “S. D.” Kasbekar, Shishir Sharma, warns that Raghav’s brain is swelling and his will to live is fading.

In the hospital, the family confronts a painful truth: Raghav’s fear of failure and social humiliation is fueling his collapse. To help him persevere, Anni decides to revisit his own college days, hoping to reignite hope by showing his son that even a “loser” can rise again. As Anni begins recounting his past, the scene shifts into a vivid flashback to 1992, the first day of college life at the National College of Technology campus. Anni finds himself assigned to Hostel 4, known as H4, infamous for housing the so-called “losers.” The senior most in H4, Raghuvir “Raggie” Chalkar, Prateik Babbar, is the charismatic hostelite who quickly becomes the centerpiece of Anni’s new world. Raggie offers him a place in the rival, more prestigious H3, but Anni hesitates, torn between loyalty to Maya and a growing attachment to the unique, boisterous energy of H4.

Sexa, Gurmeet Singh Dhillon, the hyper-sexual, quick-witted senior with an appetite for mischief, Varun Sharma, welcomes Anni into the fold and introduces him to the quirks of H4. The group’s circle expands to include Himanshu “Acid” Deshmukh, a top student who begins to slip and roughen in attitude, Naveen Polishetty; Sundar “Mummy” Saxena, a reserved introvert who clings to his mother’s advice but adapts surprisingly well abroad, Tushar Pandey; and Sahil “Bevda” Awasthi, a heartbroken, veteran chess champion who completes the quirky six-pack, Saharsh Kumar Shukla. Derek D’Souza, the celebrated athlete, adds fire to the team’s dynamic, Tahir Raj Bhasin.

Together, the H4 crew faces a gauntlet of challenges as they prepare for the GC (the inter-hostel competition). Anni devises a bold plan to sacrifice something precious in order to outwit the rival hostels, and the team rallies around his leadership. Anni temporarily withdraws from Maya to shield her from the mounting pressure, a decision that tests their bond as Bevda suffers a relapse, sending the team into a downward spiral. Yet resilience returns as Anni crafts a triumvirate of strategic moves, and H4 begins to rack up victories across multiple events, from endurance to carrom, led by Mummy’s steady hands and Bevda’s sharpened chess play.

In a pivotal turn, a heated bar celebration triggers a clash between Raggie’s gang and the H4 crew, leaving Mummy with a finger injury that robs them of a crucial carrom semifinal. Bevda reclaims his form after rehab, Acid’s sharp tongue returns, and Derek’s athletic prowess anchors the team’s ascent. A last-minute decision to train Danda, Abhimanyu Rathore, Ranjan Raj to shed two kilograms for the 42 kg category brings a surprising victory, and the team advances to the finals for the first time in college history, facing their old rival H3.

Back in the present, Dr. Kasbekar urges Anni, Maya, and the others to return to the hospital for Raghav’s operation. They promise to wait for the “climax.” The group’s shared memories remind them of a time when Raggie publicly called them “champions” for the first time, a turning moment that rallied the H4 crew and transformed the stigma of being “losers.” Anni explains to Raghav that worth isn’t measured by results but by effort, and that true strength is choosing to fight, even when the odds are daunting.

As Raghav’s operation proceeds, Anni’s youth returns in the mind’s eye: Derek, Mummy, Acid, Sexa, Bevda, and Maya appear as their younger selves, cheering on his battle. The scene shifts to a year later, when a fully recovered Raghav steps onto a new campus for the first day of college. He tells the audience not to worry about naming the college or his rank, content to live life fully and enjoy the journey. When he meets a senior’s probing question, the grown-up visions of his parents and the H4 gang smile at him, a quiet affirmation that the lessons of the past remain a living spark within him.
