Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End

Manel and his wife Julia visit Manel's older sister, Belén, for a holiday gathering. This family reunion sets the stage for personal and emotional conflicts that will later unfold.

During their drive home, Manel and Julia engage in a heated discussion regarding starting a family. Unfortunately, this conversation is abruptly interrupted by a tragic car accident that claims Julia's life, leaving Manel in deep sorrow.

In the year following Julia's death, Manel isolates himself in his Galician home, struggling with his intense grief. He becomes reclusive, reliant solely on his cat Lúculo for companionship, and has minimal contact with his family.

While Manel deals with his despair, a virulent virus known as TSJ begins spreading across Europe. The government attempts to conceal the dire situation, but chaos ensues as those infected turn into violent zombies.

Belén's family is evacuated to the Canary Islands amid the growing crisis. Manel tries to reach them but finds the government has closed the borders, escalating the urgency of the situation.

While searching for supplies, Manel witnesses an alarming scene: an infected person attacking police officers. This event marks a turning point, as the reality of the outbreak descends upon him.

In a desperate hunt for provisions, Manel encounters Gabriela, an elderly woman confined to a wheelchair. They form an alliance as they share the goal of gathering essential supplies in a world spiraling into chaos.

Gabriela informs Manel about a radio broadcast inviting survivors to the Arousa Estuary for a chance to escape the epidemic. With hopes of survival, Manel resolves to take her with him on his boat.

The next morning, Manel discovers that Gabriela has taken her own life, feeling she may be a burden during their escape. This heart-wrenching realization adds to Manel's burden as he prepares to venture out alone.

Equipped with a diving suit and his cat Lúculo, Manel attempts to navigate toward the docks but is pursued by a horde of zombies. Facing dire circumstances, he has to make quick decisions to survive.

Manel meets a group of Ukrainian sailors led by Captain Ushankov while searching for a means to escape. He learns that the Canary Islands have been quarantined, complicating their plans for survival.

Manel's suspicions arise when he sees the Ukrainian crew rifling through the belongings of other refugees. Determined to escape, he reveals the location of a hospital helicopter that could offer them a chance to flee.

During a dangerous mission to rescue imprisoned refugees, chaos ensues when Manel is confronted by a guard. With Pritchenko's help, they manage to escape, but at the cost of one refugee's life.

Upon reaching the hospital, Manel and Pritchenko find Lucía, a nurse, and several children hiding there. They learn about another potential escape route but face new dangers from both zombies and Ushankov's crew.

In a pivotal moment, Manel releases zombies onto Ushankov's men, allowing the group to make their escape. However, the joy is short-lived as they receive a call from Belén, warning them to stay away from the Canary Islands amidst rising chaos.
