Affair in Trinidad

Night falls as Chris Emery performs at a nightclub in Trinidad. After her performance, she is informed by Inspector Smythe and American consulate member Anderson that her husband Neil has been found dead from a gunshot wound. She is comforted by Neil's friend Max Fabian, introducing the suspicion and concern surrounding Neil's death.

The police initially suspect Neil committed suicide, finding a pistol at the scene and a gunshot wound. However, further investigation casts doubt on this, suggesting that Neil was actually murdered, prompting deeper inquiries into the circumstances.

Police reveal that Neil's boat was seen near Fabian's property at the time of the murder. This connection implicates Fabian and raises suspicions about his possible involvement in Neil's death and his motives connected to treasonous activities.

Chris discovers that Fabian is a dishonest manipulator involved in trading information and aiding treason. She begins to suspect that Neil's murder might be linked to Fabian's latest project to help Nazis launch rockets from Trinidad targeting the United States.

Chris decide to exploit her relationship with Fabian, using his feelings for her to gather valuable information for the police. Her covert operations are driven by her desire to uncover the truth and bring Neil's killer to justice.

Neil's brother, Steve Emery, arrives in Trinidad after Neil writes to him about a potential job opportunity. He is shocked to learn about his brother’s death and suspects there is more than a simple suicide, prompting him to investigate independently.

Steve and Chris spend time together while investigating Neil's death. As they bond, Chris begins to fall in love with Steve, although she cannot reveal her true motive for getting close to Fabian, which is to uncover criminal activities leading to Neil's murder.

During a party at Fabian’s estate, Steve identifies Walters as a passenger from his flight who became agitated when Neil’s name was mentioned. Recognized as a liability, Walters is murdered by a hit-and-run driver, raising suspicion of Fabian’s involvement in cover-ups.

As Chris gets closer to uncovering Fabian’s criminal activities, Steve collects concrete evidence linking Fabian to Neil's murder. Their investigation leads to a confrontation and a climactic showdown involving gunfights and dangerous revelations.

During a struggle for a weapon, Fabian is accidentally shot, realizing his wound might be fatal. He orders his accomplices to leave with the secrets, but law enforcement surrounds the estate. Fabian is eventually killed by Steve in a final gunfight, ending his treachery.

With Fabian defeated and the truth uncovered, Chris is cleared of suspicion. She and Steve decide to leave Trinidad for Chicago, aiming to start anew after the tumultuous events surrounding Neil’s murder and Fabian’s criminal empire.
