Dharma, a humble village farmer, saves Ajit, Sujit, and Suresh from a tiger attack. Grateful, the men offer him a chance to visit Bombay and a possible job when he comes to the city, setting the stage for a future in the metropolis.

When the village suffers an economic crisis and drought, Dharma's family moves to Bombay. Ajit keeps his promise by installing Dharma as the manager of his warehouse, providing stability in the city.

Dharma is tricked into signing a document that unexpectedly makes him the owner of the very warehouse he manages. He remains unaware of the legal implications while his bosses silently benefit from the deceit.

A police raid uncovers supposed illicit activities at the warehouse. Dharma is arrested for trafficking gold and drugs, far from understanding the law that convicts him due to his bosses' manipulation. He is sentenced to 18 months, plus six months for contempt of court.

Sujit visits Dharma's destitute family offering compensation for the false implication. Radha refuses, insisting they must not touch ill-gotten wealth, and continues to work hard as a maid and tailor to support them.

Radha's health deteriorates due to the burden of work while she is pregnant. At the hospital, Laxmi helps with medicines, ultimately dying in Dharma's arms after consuming poison. The baby dies earlier due to Radha's fall, leaving Dharma heartbroken.

Back home, the bosses offer compensation, but Dharma rejects it and demands his baby and sister as restitution. The prison and hardship have hardened him, turning him into a man driven by vengeance.

After release, Dharma visits Sujit at night and compels him to write a confession. He then hangs Sujit from a fan, staging it as a suicide, while Inspector Khan remains skeptical due to lack of evidence.

To remove suspicion about the robbery, Dharma hands over all the money to the hotel owner and leases his hotel for a small monthly fee. The arrangement provides him a stable front but leaves Inspector Khan wary of the lack of hard evidence.

Ajit, now a threat again, plants a bomb in Dharma's home. Dharma manages to save his family but is severely injured in the explosion, deepening his resolve to take control of the situation.

Dharma targets Suresh, lures him with alcohol, and extracts his money and information about their illegal dealings. When Suresh is vulnerable, Dharma pushes him from the stairs to simulate an accident, further eliminating rivals.

Dharma consolidates his control over the illegal empire and shifts his focus to protecting the venture by sending his son Raju to London for education, away from the dangers of the business.

Years later, Raju returns from London seeking to marry Geeta Verma, but Dharma hesitates due to a prior arrangement with a business partner. Tensions rise as Rajan, Ajit's former employee, senses an opportunity and resents Dharma's decisions.

Ajit is alive and returns to avenge his past. He teams up with Rajan to murder Dharma, setting in motion a deadly conspiracy that targets Dharma and his family. Rajan's plan succeeds in harming Dharma's wife.

Dharma realises Khan's warning was prophetic and chooses a path toward self-destruction to foil his rivals. He heads into a final duel to secure his son's future, accepting that his own life may end in the process.
