Following the death of Raghavan's father, the entire family's responsibilities fell on Raghavan's shoulders. The family was left with substantial debts, which eventually led to legal attachment procedures. Uncle Kunjammama stepped in to help by selling his property to clear these debts out of love for Raghavan’s father and family.

Vijayakumaran, Raghavan's brother, completes his studies to become a lawyer. Raghavan places his hope in his brother to improve their family situation. Vijayakumaran begins practicing law under a senior advocate and starts looking at marriage prospects, aiming to establish his future.

Vijayakumaran marries Shobha, the daughter of the senior advocate under whom he practices. This marriage contradicts the initial plan that his sister Nalini would marry him. The marriage causes tension due to differences and misunderstandings between Vijayakumaran and Raghavan.

Raghavan, feeling that Nalini's marriage was being compromised, arranges her marriage before Vijayakumaran’s wedding. This decision sparks a small conflict between Raghavan and his brother, creating familial tension.

Post-marriage, Shobha begins to exert control over family matters, leading to frequent clashes with family members. Her authoritative attitude causes strain and discord within the household, affecting the family's harmony.

A proposal arrives for the marriage of the family's only sister, Sudha. The groom's family demands a significant amount of money and gold, prompting Raghavan to seek financial help from his brother Vijayakumaran and his wife Shobha. Shobha agrees to help on the condition of respect and repayment.

During a family meal, Raghavan arrives directly from the fields, which irritates Shobha due to concerns over hygiene and odour. Sudha feels insulted by her brother's treatment, escalating tensions within the family.

Shobha refuses to lend money unless the family submits to her terms, which she equates with respect. Raghavan perceives this as an insult to the family's dignity and decides to earn the money himself by pawning his family share, showcasing his commitment and self-reliance.

Shobha's arrogance leads to a conflict with Kunjammama, causing him to leave the family. Her behavior further isolates the family and intensifies the discord within the household.

Feeling that his presence might harm the family unity, Raghavan chooses to leave. He relocates to a new land, starts farming, and begins a journey of self-sufficiency away from the familial conflicts.

Vijayakumaran, feeling estranged and guilty, meets his father-in-law (the advocate), who criticizes him for failing to control his wife. Vijayakumaran confronts Shobha, slaps her, and begins reflecting on the family and his responsibilities.

Vijayakumaran visits Raghavan at his new home and urges him to return. Raghavan responds with love and assures his brother that he will come back whenever he feels ready, demonstrating deep familial love and understanding.

The film concludes with Raghavan cherishing his love for his brother, despite the hardships and conflicts. Their bond remains strong, emphasizing themes of family loyalty and unconditional love.
