The Maids of Wilko

Set in the late 1920s, a thirty‑something factory manager faints at a close friend’s funeral and retreats to his aunt and uncle’s home. While there he becomes entangled with five sisters, each once in love with him, though he had only one true affection—a woman who has died unbeknownst to him. The sisters are largely disillusioned or estranged from their husbands, and the youngest still harbors a crush.
