As the war-ravaged city begins to recover, Dr. Zhang Zhichen (Xin Baiqing) pays a visit to his old friend Dai Liyan (Wu Jun), whose delicate health has been severely impacted by the trauma of war. Upon his arrival, Zhang is warmly welcomed by Liyan’s wife, Yuwen (Hu Jingfan), and his teenage sister, Dai Xiu (Lu Sisi). The meeting stirs a whirlwind of emotions, as Zhang finds himself face-to-face with Yuwen, a woman who once completely captivated him a decade ago.

Their rekindled connection is unmistakable, yet overshadowed by the troubling reality that Liyan’s deteriorating health has impeded any hopes of physical closeness. As Zhang and Yuwen grapple with the resurgence of their feelings, they confront the weight of suppressed desires and unfulfilled love. With Dai Xiu’s birthday celebration around the corner, the atmosphere grows tense and electrified, accompanied by the reckless flow of drinks.

As the evening progresses, the undeniable attraction between Zhang and Yuwen becomes apparent to everyone, including Liyan, who has grown increasingly distant from his wife. In a desperate effort to cling to both his friend and his marriage, Liyan pleads with Zhang to remain, but by then, it seems to be an argument that comes far too late. Zhang stands at a crossroads, forced to decide between igniting the flames of passion or preserving a sense of moral propriety by stepping away.

In the backdrop, the narrative that originally provided context in Fei Mu’s version has shifted to a more nuanced technique, enabling the audience to fully engage with the emotional chaos playing out on screen.
