Set on a remote, windswept island off the coast of Ireland, The Guest List centers on the glamorous yet tension-filled wedding of Jules Keegan, a successful London magazine publisher, and Will Slater, a handsome television personality. The couple chooses The Folly, an isolated venue run by wedding planner Aoife and her husband Freddy. As guests arrive by boat, a fierce storm roars in and swiftly cuts off all communication with the mainland, turning the celebration into a claustrophobic pressure cooker where old secrets start to surface.

The narrative unfolds through alternating perspectives, weaving together the points of view of Jules; Olivia, Jules’s fragile half-sister and bridesmaid; Hannah, a guest and the wife of Jules’s longtime friend Charlie; Johnno, Will’s best man and childhood confidant; and Aoife, the meticulous planner guiding the day. Flashbacks trace the events leading up to the ceremony, revealing a tapestry of strained loyalties and buried histories among a tight-knit circle of friends and relatives. Olivia grapples with a recent trauma—ghosted and humiliated by Steve, a man she met online—and a painful abortion she faced in solitude. Her increasing withdrawal, especially around Will, casts a pall over the festivities. The reception reaches a fever pitch when the storm knocks out the power. In the darkness, a scream pierces the air, and when lights flicker back on, Will’s body is found along the shoreline, his death a stabbing that shocks everyone. Suspicion flares as secrets and motives come into view: Johnno learns that Will cut him out of a TV project they pitched together, Jules overhears Olivia and Will arguing about their affair, and the group confronts a web of lies that has kept them cleverly and dangerously entangled.
