As the cinematic curtain rises, we are introduced to two young women, Britney and Janet, who bid each other farewell outside a movie theater, their paths diverging into the night. Janet’s journey takes a chilling turn when she heads towards a vacant parking lot, where a menacing blood-red Bronco lies in wait. As she drives home, the car ominously follows her, foreshadowing the horrors that are to unfold. Upon her arrival, Janet is brutally ambushed by a masked figure, who attacks her with ruthless precision. In a horrifying twist, as he restrains her, another assailant emerges, and together they embark on a sadistic game of exploitation, snapping photos to document their gruesome acts.

Meanwhile, in the tranquil town of Spearfish, Colleen, a dedicated grocery store clerk, arrives at work to find a disturbing photograph hastily attached to the community bulletin board. The image portrays a bloodied, lifeless Janet, draped on a bed like a harrowing still life. Overwhelmed with horror, Colleen rushes to the local Sheriff’s Station to report her shocking discovery. Initially, her claims are met with skepticism as the authorities brush her off, insisting that no crime has occurred. However, Colleen remains steadfast, pointing to the photograph’s ominous label – “Number 7” – as evidence of a more sinister plot at play.

On the other side of the country in Los Angeles, Peter Hemmings, a photographer hailing from Spearfish, stumbles upon an online blog showcasing the same unsettling images. Convinced that a criminal mastermind is attempting to replicate the infamous “Dead Model” aesthetic, he decides to make a trip back to his hometown. Accompanied by his assistant Chris, model Rose, and two other models, Victoria and Trip, they set their sights on a rented residence in Spearfish, planning a spontaneous gathering.

Before reaching the party, Colleen attempts to contact her friend Jill, who is now imprisoned by the same sinister duo that led to Janet’s demise. Unbeknownst to Colleen, Jill is trapped in a cage, tormented with a can of cat food. As Jill defiantly refuses to eat and tries to reclaim her phone, her captors, the very men orchestrating this ghastly spectacle, tighten their hold on her, suffocating her with a belt. They then exploit her phone to send a chilling text to Colleen, impersonating Jill and inviting her to the ill-fated party.

With emotions running high, Colleen prepares for a night out, a request from her boyfriend Ben to see her creating a brief moment of tension that she deftly diffuses. The evening proceeds with Peter’s incessant camera clicks capturing each moment until Colleen retreats to her car, only to be met with a haunting surprise: a gruesome photograph of Jill, her features grotesquely distorted with one eye missing. The authorities’ arrival does little to ease Colleen’s dread, as their inability to act only heightens her sense of despair.

The drama escalates at home when Ben waits for Colleen’s return, leading to a heated argument that ends abruptly with his departure. Unbeknownst to her, Ben is ambushed by the assailants, vanishing into the night. One of the perpetrators brazenly enters Colleen’s apartment, leaving Ben’s wallet behind as a macabre calling card of their cruelty.

At work, Colleen has a brief interaction with Tom, setting the stage for a disturbing series of events. Peter approaches her with an enticing offer to move to Los Angeles and star in his next advertising campaign, a proposition Colleen accepts, albeit with a blend of excitement and apprehension.

As she prepares to depart, Colleen packs her belongings while sending a farewell message to Ben. However, Tom’s discovery of this text serves as a grim foreshadowing of the horrors to follow. The once-peaceful house transforms into a chilling battleground as Peter and Rose face a vicious attack in the hot tub. Peter meets a horrific fate, brutally stabbed, while Rose suffers a gruesome end with her neck snapped brutally.

In the chaos, Colleen shares a tender moment with Chris before the nightmare continues. His descent downstairs to investigate an ominous open front door reveals Rose’s lifeless form draped in a towel. Panic ensues as Chris rushes back inside, desperately trying to contact the authorities. The sudden blackout plunges the house into darkness, escalating the terror.

Guided only by the flash of a camera, Chris navigates the shadows before falling prey to Gerry’s deadly assault. Meanwhile, Colleen hides under her desk, frozen with fear as the horror unfolds. When she finally musters the courage to confront the impending doom, she is met with a horrifying scene: the lifeless bodies of her friends arranged near the couch, the chilling gaze of Tom capturing her image as he urges her to tie her hair for another photo.

As the gripping storyline draws to a close, we return to the start of Britney’s day, where she approaches the store’s door with calm determination. Her gaze catches a snapshot that captures a gathering long forgotten, depicting Chris, Peter, Rose, Ben, Victoria, and Trip, their faces eternally frozen in time. At the center of this tableau sits Colleen, her hair tied up uniquely, hinting at the tantalizing secrets just waiting to be uncovered.
