Philippe, portrayed by Magimel, lives a quiet life on the outskirts of Nantes with his mother, Christine, played by Clément, a dedicated hairdresser, and his two younger sisters. Their peaceful existence is disrupted when a local girl mysteriously disappears, casting a shadow over the neighborhood. Shortly thereafter, Christine introduces her children to Gerard, a wealthy businessman, portrayed by Le Coq, who takes an interest in her. As a gesture, Christine gifts Gerard a beautiful sculpture of the Roman goddess Flora that has been cherished in their family garden.
However, things take a strange turn when Gerard vanishes without a trace, seemingly to avoid Christine. This unexpected disappearance sparks a fire within Philippe; he resolves to retrieve the sculpture. After an arduous search, he manages to track down the artwork and hides it away in his closet without alerting anyone. At his sister’s wedding, Philippe meets the captivating bridesmaid, Senta, played by Smet. Their connection is electric, and for a moment, it seems they are two passionate souls intertwined by fate. Senta, claiming to be a model and aspiring actress, intrigues Philippe with tales of living in a grand villa inherited from her father.
Yet, beneath her alluring exterior lies a twisted psyche. Senta concocts stories that blur the line between reality and fiction, harboring disturbing notions about life, love, and death. As their relationship morphs into an intense affair, she shockingly demands that Philippe commit murder as a demonstration of his love. Reeling from her request, he vehemently refuses, causing Senta to cast him out of her life, insisting that he doesn’t truly love her. In a moment of desperation, Philippe fabricates a story about killing a homeless man, presenting it as proof of his devotion. To complicate matters further, Senta declares that she has killed Gerard.
Struggling to digest her confession, Philippe visits Gerard’s residence only to find him very much alive, sparking an overwhelming sense of relief. Overjoyed, he gifts Senta the Flora sculpture and proposes to her, hoping to solidify their bond. However, the weight of reality crashes down when a police inspector approaches Philippe, probing him about a murder that occurred nearby. After being released from custody, he attempts to reach Senta to break up, believing their love has been tainted by deception.
Yet, fate intertwines their paths once again. Philippe encounters the homeless man he originally claimed to have killed, only to discover that there was a case of mistaken identity regarding the death. Returning to confront Senta, she confesses a shocking truth — she has killed a young woman who posed a threat to her previous relationship. Just as the police arrive, Philippe, fiercely devoted, assures Senta that he will never leave her side, solidifying their bond in the face of chaos and tragedy.
