Milo Boyd, an ex-NYPD detective turned bounty hunter, finds himself tangled in a chaotic mix when his ex-wife Nicole Hurley, a determined investigative reporter, is arrested for an incident involving a police officer. Nicole hastily skips her bail hearing upon receiving a crucial tip about a story she’s pursuing—what seems like a suicide that could actually be a murder. This reckless decision leads to a warrant for her arrest just as she is about to meet her informant, who gets kidnapped before she can get the information.

Thrilled by the prospective $5,000 bounty, Milo, played by Gerard Butler, eagerly takes on the task of tracking down Nicole. His adventure begins with an interrogation of her mother, Kitty, a vibrant cabaret singer, at a New Jersey racetrack. After a comical yet distressing pursuit, Milo briefly corners Nicole, only for her to momentarily escape. Unbeknownst to them, both are being hunted by dangerous characters: Milo is dodging thugs leveraged by a bookie due to his gambling debts, while Nicole is targeted by a criminal tied to her investigation.

As they navigate their chaotic entanglement, they temporarily align when Nicole, revealing critical evidence implicating Milo’s former police partner, Bobby, sparks Milo’s investigation instincts. Their quest leads to various escapades, including a fateful return to the poignant “Cupid’s Cabin” hotel from their honeymoon. There, they share confessions about their past mistakes and feelings still lingering between them.

The tension escalates when a series of mishaps culminate in Nicole handcuffing Milo to a bed in a fit of fury upon overhearing his cavalier remarks about their reunion while still committing to arresting her. In a turn of events, Milo rushes to save Nicole from a strip club showdown, only to uncover an elaborate scheme involving Bobby, Earl, and a planned heist at the police evidence warehouse.
