Rosco Frazer / Steinberg, a charming dodger, teams up with Doug O’Riordan / Mason, a recently released convict who served time for sinking a yacht that had irritated him. The pair meet during a rough brawl in a roadhouse, then slip into a truck together, each assuming the other is the driver. A routine highway stop spirals into a case of mistaken identity as truck-jackers, but Rosco’s ventriloquist act helps them bluff their way out of trouble.
Doug would rather go it alone, but Rosco’s presence clings to him, dragging him into a more tangled path. They drive to the airport intent on disappearing across state lines. With the Miami flight fully booked, they masquerade as passengers Steinberg and Mason—two travelers who have mislaid their tickets, unaware that the real Steinberg and Mason are CIA operatives on a covert mission. An alert agent stops their boarding, and a suitcase containing a cool one million dollars is handed over, turning their fate toward a dangerous new chapter.
From there, they are whisked to CIA headquarters to meet their enigmatic boss, Tiger [link to /actor/david-huddleston], who asks for a clean final report and a few convenient omissions to spare the bureau from embarrassment. To uncover a hidden secret organization haunting Miami Beach, Rosco and Doug are assigned to blend in as wealthy Texans, a disguise that proves surprisingly effective as they follow a string of suspicious clues and comic misadventures. The trail leads to K1, a megalomaniac who dreams of erasing humanity’s grasp of numbers with his notorious “K-Bomb”—a plan that would plunge the world into chaos.
With a mix of wit, bravado, and bungled schemes, the duo presses on, defusing traps and sidestepping danger while staying one step ahead of both criminals and agency scrutiny. They manage to derail K1’s scheme and save the day, but the payoff comes with a twist: the million dollars is returned to the government by their own overzealous boss, Tiger. In the end, the pair don’t cash in on their luck with a flashy reward; they instead get something more valuable: a chance to meet the president, and a new sense of what their unlikely partnership might mean for their future.
