Rest Stop: Don’t Look Back

In 1972, the R.V. family meets The Driver stranded by a yellow truck with no gas. The mother flirts with him and asks Scotty to photograph the moment, setting an uneasy tone. The encounter hints at danger to come.

Back inside the R.V., the Father discovers The Driver with his wife. The wife claims it was non-consensual and urges her husband to attack him. The family decides to 'cleanse' him of his sins, leading to a brutal death.

The family tortures The Driver to death and buries him at a rest stop, keeping his eyes as trophies. The act marks a turning point from misfortune to horror. The rest stop becomes a grim reminder of what they have done.

The Driver's spirit returns to the scene and kills the entire family, driving away in the yellow truck. The road's quiet is broken by an unseen force reclaiming its victims. The Driver's ghost remains a threat long after the event.

Thirty-five years later, Tom returns from Iraq with his girlfriend Marilyn and Nicole's friend Jared, who had a crush on Nicole. They decide to drive to California to search for Jesse and Nicole. They journey is motivated by the bond of loss and duty to family.

The trio stops at a gas station where Tom shows a photo of Jesse and Nicole to the attendant. The attendant says he did see them and warns them to be careful. Jared finds Nicole's horse-riding badge, which links the present danger to the Old Highway.

Jared uses a porta-potty at a construction site while Tom and Marilyn continue toward California. The Driver harasses Jared and rams the porta-potty with the truck, covering him in feces. The attack marks the first direct threat in the new chapter of the story.

At the rest stop, The Driver abducts Tom as Marilyn uses the bathroom. Nicole's ghost appears in the other stall, then disappears, and Marilyn rushes out to tell Tom, only to find him gone. The fear and mystery escalate as the group loses its leader.

Later, Nicole's ghost appears in Jared's backseat, and he believes she is real as he consoles her. They momentarily connect, but Nicole vomits blood and disappears. Jared's car then dies, forcing him to flee on foot toward the nearby highway.

Jared and Marilyn return to the gas station to learn more, and the attendant explains that to lay The Driver’s spirit to rest, they must find and burn his eyes. The Driver has set a trap, and Jared is captured, with his eye being cut out and Marilyn being forced into torture.

Tom arrives amid the chaos and they discover that The Driver's eyes are with the twins, as foretold by Scotty's ghost. They corner The Driver and set the R.V. on fire in an attempt to destroy him, with The Driver vanishing as the blaze spreads. The eyes are now in the hands of the twins, completing the ritual.

During the aftermath, Jared finds his Nicole photo missing from his visor, signaling the danger is not over. The R.V. collides with Jared's car as the pursuit resumes. In a motel, Tom and Marilyn mourn; the yellow truck is heard outside, and in the final moment, The Driver continues to roam the Old Highway.
