In August 1944, German forces decide to relocate captured treasure, paintings, and about 25 tons of gold ingots from Paris to a safer location behind the front. They begin organizing transport and securing routes to move the wealth away from advancing Allied forces. This decision sets in motion the long and perilous quest of the gold.

The gold is transported to the small Bosnian town of Bosansko Grahovo and stored in the town’s bank vault. German forces arrest all the townspeople as a brutal reprisal while a young boy escapes execution. Years later, Yugoslav partisans locate the boy and learn of the vanished treasure.

In 1995, a team of U.S. Navy SEALs disguised as journalists launches a covert operation to capture Bosnian Serb General Milić in Sarajevo. The mission aims to hold him accountable for atrocities, but the operation encounters heavy resistance and escalating danger. The team remains committed to completing their objective under intense pressure.

The SEAL team is compromised and forced to improvise as Petrović’s pursuing forces, including a tank, tear through the city streets, causing extensive damage. They manage to disengage from immediate danger and plan the next steps under a rain of gunfire.

Back at their base, Rear Admiral J. Levin reprimands the team for breaking regulations and grants them a three-day leave to recover from the mission. The dispute highlights the tension between strict protocol and bold, results-driven action. The men contemplate the personal costs of the operation.

Stanton Baker develops a romantic interest in Lara, a local waitress, and they share a night together. This personal connection deepens Lara's involvement in the mission and raises the stakes for everyone involved. The relationship adds emotional weight to the dangerous pursuit of the gold.

Milenko and his thugs raid Lara’s flat, seize the gold ingot she guards, and report the discovery to Petrović. The raid escalates the danger facing the SEAL team and tightens the timeline for a retrieval. Lara’s cache becomes a focal point of the conflict.

Lara explains that her grandfather survived the Grahovo massacre, hid a gold ingot, and later retrieved it after partisans blew up the dam and flooded the town. He told Lara the tale and hinted at a far larger cache—potentially thousands of ingots worth hundreds of millions. The revelation ties the current hunt to a long-buried WWII history.

The SEAL team and Lara locate the vault but find only ten ingots at first, underscoring that a much larger hoard remains hidden. Barnes discovers a concealed opening in the wall that leads to the real stash behind a wall. They prepare to extract the remaining treasure.

They create an air pocket inside a church to access the hidden vault and haul the gold to the surface using an air-filled cargo parachute. The operation unfolds under the threat of discovery and pursuit from Petrović’s forces. The team demonstrates ingenuity under extreme pressure.

Petrović and his Serbian forces arrive at the lake and deploy divers while detonating grenades to flood the area and force the SEAL team to the surface. The high-stakes chase escalates as the pursuers close in from multiple directions. The clock runs out for a clean getaway.

A U.S. Navy Super Stallion helicopter arrives just in time to defeat the enemy and kill Petrović. With their primary antagonist removed, the SEAL team secures the recovered gold and makes a safe retreat. The dramatic intervention turns the tide of the mission.

Levin confronts the team for breaking regulations but decides not to punish them because they achieved the mission’s main objective—killing Petrović and recovering the treasure. The decision underscores a pragmatic view of military risk and reward. The team breathes a cautious relief as they move toward extraction.

The President of France awards Lara the Legion of Honour for her role in the operation. Half of the recovered gold is returned to France, while the other half is sold anonymously. The money is distributed among the team, with Lara receiving the largest share, and they celebrate in a bar after the mission.
