The Motherworld has experienced a turbulent reign marked by the succession of 1000 kings, each draining their planet’s resources and expanding their empire through relentless conquest. However, a turning point occurs when an assassin eliminates the King and Queen, extinguishing the royal bloodline forever. Seizing control in the ensuing chaos is Senator Balisarius, who begins ruthlessly quashing rebellions in the empire’s far reaches by deploying his most fearsome commander, Atticus Noble (portrayed by Ed Skrein).

Arriving on the remote moon of Veldt, which is characterized by its simple farming lifestyle, Noble represents the mighty Imperium of the Motherworld, an entity built on centuries of warfare and dominance. Young Kora operates the fields and struggles with her own troubled past—a product of relentless conflict who has learned to view the concept of family as something that was forcibly stripped away from her during her transformation into a soldier. Her solitude is interrupted by the affections of local farmer Den (Stuart Martin), but Kora is wary, knowing that alliances with the Imperium can lead only to subjugation.

The arrival of Noble’s dreadnought instills fear in the villagers, leading to a divided stance on how to handle his demands. While Gunnar (a pragmatic farmer who has previously sold to rebels) advocates for negotiation, Kora firmly believes that the Imperium holds no interest in partnerships, only in domination. Noble’s violent tactics quickly become evident when he offers to purchase the village’s grain at an inflated price but swiftly executes leader Sindri (Corey Stoll) when he refuses to cooperate.

With the Imperium calculating that the village cannot survive both the grain demand and the harsh conditions of their environment, Noble leaves behind a contingent of soldiers, including the malevolent Marcus (Greg Kriek) and conflicted Private Aris (Sky Yang), along with a sentient “Jimmy” robot (JC-1435, voiced by Anthony Hopkins) designed to protect but unable to fight following the royal assassination. When faced with abuse from Marcus, it is Jimmy’s awakening to independence that sparks a significant turning point, prompting Kora to rally the villagers for imminent defense.

In a bid to strengthen their forces, Kora and Gunnar embark on a perilous journey to recruit warriors, seeking out Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a disgraced general, and hoping to connect with the rebellious Bloodaxe siblings, Devra (Cleopatra Coleman) and Darrian (Ray Fisher). Kora reveals to Gunnar her tragic history—adopted and transformed into Arthelais by Balisarius after her family’s execution, she fought for the very empire that obliterated her past. As her journey unfolds, the duo encounters Kai (Charlie Hunnam), who agrees to assist them, introducing additional allies along the way.

In their attempts to rally fighters against Noble’s tyranny, they learn about the brutal reality faced by the Bloodaxe siblings and the consequences of their defiance. Even as Kora’s determination to resist deepens, betrayal looms, as Kai ultimately reveals his true colors, leading to a fierce confrontation with Noble.

In an explosive climax, lives are lost, sacrifices made, and a fierce fight for survival culminates in the confrontation with Noble. As the remnants of Kora’s group return to Veldt, they are unaware that Noble’s resurrection looms larger, a grim reminder that their struggles are far from over. The narrative weaves together themes of bravery, betrayal, and the fight against oppressive forces, setting the stage for future upheaval in the ongoing saga of the Motherworld and its people.
