The Motherworld has been under the tyranny of a thousand kings, each one more ruthless than the last. These royal bloodlines have consumed all the resources of their home planet and launched their armies into the cosmos, seeking to conquer new worlds for their wealth. The cycle of oppression was momentarily broken when an assassin struck down both the King and Queen, thus obliterating the royal lineage forever.
In this chaotic environment, a powerful senator named Balisarius has risen to claim control, ruthlessly suppressing any signs of rebellion in the distant territories of the empire. He sends his most brutal commander, Atticus Noble, to crush the insurgence, effectively establishing his dominion.
Atticus Noble, a sadistic admiral of the militaristic Imperium, arrives on the remote moon of Veldt, a simple farming community, as the emissary of the Motherworld. Here, he finds Kora, a resident working diligently in the fields and being pursued by Den, a local farmer. Despite only being in Veldt for two seasons, Kora declares she is a product of war; the very notion of family was stripped from her, leaving her a soldier.
As the villagers spot the dreadnought entering their atmosphere, Kora warns them of the impending danger. Gunnar, another farmer, believes in negotiating with the Imperium to ensure their safety. However, Kora is adamant that the Imperium knows only subjugation. She recalls how Gunnar aided rebels in the past and believes they should concede to the Imperium’s demands before further atrocities occur. The village leader, Sindri, dismisses the idea of compromising, insisting they can hardly survive.
Noble informs the villagers that his troops are in pursuit of the rebel siblings Devra and Darrian Bloodaxe, offering to purchase the village’s surplus grain at triple the market price. However, Sindri declines, noting their scarcity and harsh winters. Gunnar challenges this notion, leading to an unsettling outcome where Noble kills Sindri and compels Gunnar to gather enough grain for the Imperium, leaving the village dangerously short for survival.
As Noble departs, he leaves a contingent of soldiers, including Marcus (Greg Kriek), a callous soldier, and Private Aris (Sky Yang), who bears the weight of disillusionment with the empire. They also leave behind a Jimmy robot, JC-1435 (Anthony Hopkins), decommissioned from fighting after the royal family’s demise due to their programming. Gradually, Jimmy begins to exhibit signs of independence and forms a bond with the villager Sam.
In a significant moment, Jimmy shares the haunting tale of the royal family’s assassination and how the irrepressible hope of Princess Issa — meant to usher in peace — came to a tragic end. Kora grapples with the choice of fleeing or complying with the Imperium. When Gunnar and Den opt to supply the Imperium, Kora discovers soldiers threatening Sam’s safety. With help from Jimmy, Kora defies her programming and becomes the protector she was once trained to be.
She alerts the villagers that without a united defense, Noble will return intent on erasing them. Kora and Gunnar embark on a perilous journey to recruit fighters, including Titus, a disgraced Imperium general who became disillusioned with the regime. Along the way, Kora reveals her harrowing past, having gone from a victim of warfare to a soldier for the very empire that destroyed her home.
Upon reaching Providence, they enlist the help of Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a smuggler with his own agenda, and face dangers that lead them to Pollux. There, they also include Tarak, a beast tamer, and Nemesis, a cybernetically enhanced swordswoman. The group discovers Titus in a disheveled state, motivated by the haunting memories of his past failures, finally agreeing to join Kora’s cause for vengeance.
Their recruitment efforts lead them to Darrian and Devra on Sharaan, where they gain support amid brief hopes of succeeding against the Imperial dreadnought returning to punish the village for their alliance with rebels. As they prepare for conflict, betrayal emerges when Kai reveals his true intentions, aligning with Noble, thus leaving Kora’s warriors at a dire crossroads.
“In a world where betrayal lurks in the shadows, trust is hard-won yet fragile.”
The ensuing confrontation leads to desperate battles and sacrifices, culminating in [Darrian]‘s ultimate act of bravery. The remaining fighters return to Veldt, their journey marked by emotional scars and a glimmer of hope. Meanwhile, in the depths of space, Noble’s lifeless body is retrieved, and a dark resurrection looms, as he receives orders from Balisarius to quell the insurgency and capture Kora alive.
