Stagecoach trouble: telegraphs and a murdered worker

Ross Granger travels by stagecoach and noisily sends telegraphs as an uninterested passenger and an irate woman accompany him. They discover a worker with an arrow in his back hanging from a telegraph pole and load the body onto the coach. The body falls off before they reach Oaktown, and Granger fights the driver over the loss, sending him back to retrieve the body.

Reunion at the Silver Dollar Saloon

In the Silver Dollar Saloon, Granger runs into Del Stewart, a friend from the Civil War. Del invites Granger to dinner with his girlfriend Ann Dennison, and they reminisce about old times. The encounter hints at Del's deeper schemes beneath the friendly surface.

Del Dennison, engaged to Ann, visits her father to persuade him to reroute the railway through Oaktown. The father resists, standing firm against the scheme. Del’s partner shoots the father dead, and the killer and Del attend the funeral, deepening the conflict.

Granger begins working as the town’s telegraph operator, but many suspect he may be an impostor. The sheriff warns of brewing trouble and reveals where the Comanche rifles are hidden. Granger senses an ambush may be coming and prepares for trouble.

Ann breaks off her engagement after learning Del’s scheme; Jessie, initially pleased by the deception, discovers Del’s true nature and is shot by him in a fit of rage.
