Rajaguru Vijayavarman schemes to kill Marthandan and install Pingalan as king to control Ratnapuri from behind the scenes. The plan aims to destabilize the recently chosen ruler and shift power to the royal priestly faction. Loyalists of the crown fear for the realm’s future.

Veerabahu and his loyalists, including his son Bhupathi and daughter Madhana, become dissatisfied with the return to autocratic rule. Violent protests spread across the kingdom, with Veerangan leading the charge alongside Sagayam. The demonstrators march on the palace to demand democratic reforms.

Veerangan and Madhana are imprisoned in Naganathapuram on charges tied to the protests. They are pardoned and released on the occasion of Marthandan’s coronation, signaling a possible reconciliation. The freed duo, along with Veerabahu, heads toward Ratnapuri with renewed purpose.

Veerangan, Sagayam, and Madhana travel toward Ratnapuri, reuniting with Ratnapuri’s faction. Sharing the same revolutionary ideals, Madhana and Veerangan gradually develop a deep, romantic bond during the journey.

Marthandan arrives in Ratnapuri and is instructed by Vijayavarman to stay in an isolated palace on the outskirts and to avoid meeting his wife Manohari until coronation. The measures are meant to prevent any public display of legitimacy before the ceremony. The king’s supporters watch closely as the countdown to coronation begins.

On the eve of the coronation, Vijayavarman arranges for Marthandan to be poisoned and, with help from Karmegam, the plan is set in motion. Marthandan faints after drinking the poisoned beverage but is saved by Veerangan and Ratnapuri’s commander-in-chief. The attempted assassination creates a crisis just before the ascent to the throne.

The commander-in-chief and ministers persuade Veerangan to take Marthandan’s place so the coronation can proceed. Reluctantly, Veerangan agrees and arrives in time to be crowned as Ratnapuri’s king. The switch secures the coronation but sows the seeds of personal doubt and future conflict.

After the coronation, Marthandan is kidnapped by Vijayavarman, while Veerangan continues to rule in his stead for longer than expected. Veerangan uses the interim period to implement reforms aimed at uplifting the poor and reshaping governance. The people rally behind his progressive agenda.

Veerangan reveals to Manohari that he is not Marthandan, which she accepts as a noble truth and embraces him as a brother. In the same breath, Madhana is killed by Pingalan, fueling Veerangan’s resolve to avenge her and reform Ratnapuri. The personal and political stakes intensify.

Veerangan learns that Ratna and Marthandan have been kidnapped and are being held on Kanni Theevu island. He sails with his forces to the island, determined to rescue them and restore order. Ratna’s safety becomes a central objective of Veerangan’s mission.

On Kanni Theevu, Ratna falls for Veerangan, who returns her feelings, complicating the loyalties of everyone involved. Pingalan and Karmegam arrive to confront the unfolding power struggle, adding further tension to the island crisis. The island’s ruler is revealed to be Vijayavarman in disguise.

Pingalan attempts to seize Ratna by force, prompting Veerangan to intervene. He rescues Ratna and frees Marthandan and Karmegam from Vijayavarman’s captivity, setting the stage for a final confrontation. The alliances shift as both sides prepare for battle.

Veerangan and Marthandan unite against Vijayavarman, defeating him and reclaiming Ratnapuri’s throne. Veerangan weds Ratna, and Marthandan issues a proclamation declaring Ratnapuri a democracy. The kingdom moves toward political reform and a new era of governance.
