As Chauvelin escalates his pursuit, he deduces that the Scarlet Pimpernel must be a member of the English nobility, and he presses the Count de Tournay to spy on the English court for the Republic. The cat-and-mouse game intensifies when Marguerite and Chauvelin argue about the morality of the executions themselves, a dispute that reveals the personal lines blurred by love, loyalty, and fear. In a bold turn, Percy reveals his true identity to Armand and enlists him to use his influential connections to explore the prison where the Dauphin, the young son of the former French king, is held. After a period of courtship and growing trust, Percy and Marguerite marry, but their new happiness is tempered by suspicion. With the Dauphin’s safety at stake, Armand arranges the firing of the gaolers responsible for the child’s care and coordinates a daring plan to slip the Dauphin out of Paris. The boy is secreted to a coastal castle, and the Pimpernel accompanies Armand in a risky attempt to rescue him. In a cruel twist, Percy is captured while trying to extract the Dauphin, and Marguerite visits him in prison. He entrusts her with one final plan: she should arrange for the Baron de Batz, a devoted ally with his own Austrian connections, to smuggle the boy out of France the following night. Percy then agrees to personally escort Chauvelin to the fortress to ensure the boy’s safe transfer. Marguerite and Armand appear as hostages during the operation, but the Dauphin has already been removed.

At the castle, Chauvelin orders Percy’s execution, but the trap snaps into place as the firing squad turns out to be members of the Scarlet Pimpernel’s league, disguised as Chauvelin’s troops. In a dramatic reversal, Percy is saved, and a fierce duel with Chauvelin ensues, with Percy emerging victorious. Rather than execute the French agent, Percy leaves Chauvelin to the fate of Robespierre, while Armand—disguised in Chauvelin’s uniform—helps orchestrate the escape with the assistance of departing French troops. In the end, Percy and Marguerite, their faith and love reaffirmed, sail away together, choosing a future built on trust and shared daring.
