Murari

In the 19th century, a greedy zamindar attempts to steal the panchaloha Durga idol from the temple during an inauspicious Amavasya. His theft fails and he is killed along with the Britishers, sealing the temple's fate with tragedy. The goddess curses the zamindar's family, promising that the male heirs will perish in a forty-eight-year cycle.

By 2001, Murari is the youngest son and the next intended victim of the curse. His mother has died, and Sabari, the grandmother who survived the last cycle, fears for his safety. The curse casts a long shadow over the family as they brace for the looming fate.

Murari is cherished by his father Sathipandu, his grandmother Sabari, and his elder brothers Seenayya, Baachi, and Soori, along with their wives and children. He shares a special bond with Gopi, his eldest sister-in-law, who he deeply admires. The household remains loving yet haunted by predictions of tragedy.

Gopi's maternal family, led by her uncle Chanti, is estranged from Murari's clan due to past feuds surrounding Gopi's wedding. The rift keeps Gopi and her kin distant, although she still visits Murari when possible. The atmosphere in both villages and the city is colored by the ongoing feud.

Vasundhara 'Vasu', Chanti's daughter, comes to the city to study. Murari flirts with her and soon falls in love, then follows Vasu to Hyderabad when she leaves for the city. He confesses his love and, unbeknownst to her family, Vasu agrees to stay with Murari's family under the pretext of research.

Murari informs Sabari about his wish to marry Vasu, but the family priest reveals the truth about the curse and warns that Murari will die and Vasu would be widowed young. Sabari initially objects to the marriage; fearing the consequences, she keeps the explanations to herself. The revelation deepens the conflict as the countdown to disaster begins.

Misinterpreting Sabari's hesitation as revenge for the family feud, Rambabu pushes Vasu toward marriage with Bullabayi, a greedy suitor. Sabari meanwhile starts performing rituals to counter the curse, hoping to protect Murari and Vasu. The family prepares for a hurried engagement that could unlock the foretold tragedy.

Sabari has Murari perform several counter-rituals to counteract the curse, seeking to safeguard Murari and Vasu. The priests' later revelations bring new clarity to Sabari's quiet fight. The rituals intensify the tension within the family as they await the outcome.

Chanti arrives to announce Vasu's impending arranged marriage, triggering conflict within the temple. The priest reveals the full truth about the curse and Sabari's protective efforts. The family ultimately decides to support Murari's choice and to attempt a rescue of Vasu.

Murari sets out to rescue Vasu, who escapes with help from her mother and other women. He is stabbed by Bullabayi during the pursuit, but continues toward the temple while carrying the unconscious Vasu. The act embodies a defiant commitment to love and duty despite mortal danger.

Soori arranges for medical treatment for Murari after his stabbing, but his condition remains critical. Rambabu attacks Murari as he fights to reach the temple; during the struggle, the idol of Durga is invoked in Rakthabhishekam as Murari bears it forward. Vasu wakes up and learns of Murari's injury, intensifying the drive to finish the ritual.

In a final act of devotion, Sabari sacrifices herself by drowning in the river, offering herself to appease the goddess. With her sacrifice, the curse is lifted and Murari begins to recover. The family witnesses a hopeful reversal of fate.

With the curse ended and Murari's health restored, he and Vasu marry, seeking blessings from the goddess and from Sabari's portrait. The union commemorates Sabari's sacrifice and a new beginning for the family. They start their life together with hope for peace and prosperity.
