In a bustling Chennai police station, Maharaja reports a seemingly trivial theft: a dustbin he calls Lakshmi. He speaks with calm, almost reverence for the object, and even offers a hefty bribe to move the case along. The investigators wonder if the case is eccentric or a front for something more valuable.

The narrative alternates between the present investigation and flashbacks to a peaceful life with his daughter Jothi, and to a brutal world governed by Selvam and Sabari. A gold chain left at a barbershop hints at a hidden link between the two halves of the story.

A serene past shows Maharaja as a doting father to a young girl named Jothi, their laughter and quiet affection forging an unbreakable bond. The scene establishes a tender, ordinary life before tragedy disrupts everything.

We glimpse the world of ruthless crime through Selvam and his accomplice Sabari, committing robberies and acts of violence. Their brutal life contrasts with Maharaja’s peace and foreshadows a hidden connection that will unravel later.

A catastrophic truck accident erupts, throwing chaos into the lives of the families involved. A wife dies while a child survives, sheltered by the mundane dustbin that will become central to the mystery.

Maharaja takes in the orphaned Ammu and raises her as his daughter, renaming her Jothi. The new family bond grows, but a quiet ache lingers beneath the calm surface.

Years later, Selvam and his accomplices break into Maharaja’s home and brutally assault Jothi, shattering the peaceful life. The attack becomes the catalyst that drives Maharaja toward a hidden, calculated pursuit of vengeance.

Back in the present, Maharaja provides Inspector Varadharajan with a toll receipt found at the crime scene, piquing curiosity but not yet solving the case. The clue hints that the theft was not random but connected to a larger, darker plan.

During a tense confrontation at the police station, Maharaja recounts events to informant Nallasivam, and a slow dawning horror spreads across Nallasivam’s face. He realizes he himself was one of the intruders, revealing the theft as a sting to draw authorities toward Maharaja’s targets.

The full truth emerges: the ‘stolen dustbin’ was a clever ruse to entangle the police and drive them toward Maharaja’s real targets. Maharaja’s pursuit is revealed as a form of justice rather than petty theft.

Maharaja finally confronts Selvam at a construction site and delivers a devastating exchange of truths rather than a physical fight. Selvam discovers that the girl he assaulted was his own daughter Ammu, the child he had not seen since the accident. Overwhelmed by guilt, he takes his own life.

With Selvam dead, the police choose to turn a blind eye and allow Maharaja to obtain his final piece of vengeance. The film closes with a somber meditation on using a simple object as a weapon in the pursuit of justice and the cost of vengeance.
