Read the complete plot breakdown of Moon Warriors (1992), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Fei, Andy Lau, is a simple fisherman with extraordinary sword-fighting prowess who becomes entwined in a dangerous game of power. He rescues the 13th Prince, Kenny Bee, from assassins sent by his brother, the ambitious 14th Prince, Kelvin Wong Siu, who seeks to seize Yin’s throne. Fei welcomes the injured prince and his entourage to his village, where a bond forms between unlikely allies and the idea of a peaceful life feels suddenly fragile.

As dawn breaks, the 14th Prince’s troops close in, forcing Fei to shepherd the prince and his followers into hiding inside a mausoleum—the tomb of Yin’s King, the 13th Prince’s father. In this hushed sanctuary, Fei learns the prince’s true identity and resolves to seek aid from the Lord of Lan-ling, Chang Yi. The 13th Prince entrusts his bodyguard, Mo-sin, Maggie Cheung, along with a jade token, to Fei, charging him with finding the lord and escorting Yuet-nga, the prince’s fiancée, back to safety.

On the road they meet the lord’s camp and Yuet-nga, a steadfast princess whose resolve matches her charm, Anita Mui Yim-Fong. Yet ambushes by the 14th Prince’s assassins keep coming, testing Fei’s courage at every turn. Mo-sin stays behind to hold the line while Fei and Yuet-nga press onward. In a cave, a face-concealed assassin strikes again, and Fei is pierced while shielding Yuet-nga. She nurses his wounds, and the two grow closer, sharing a quiet, hopeful moment beneath the stars. Fei even gifts her a small bunny, a tender symbol amid the storm.

The assassin turns out to be Mo-sin herself, sent by the 14th Prince to spy on his brother. The tyrant menacingly uses Mo-sin’s duplicity as leverage, threatening to poison her if she fails to kill Fei and the 13th Prince by Moon Autumn. Fei’s mission takes on a more personal meaning as he and Yuet-nga survive together, their trust deepening into something more intimate.

Fei returns the lovers to his fishing village, where Yuet-nga is joyfully reunited with the 13th Prince. Lord Lan-ling announces the engagement between the prince and Yuet-nga and even offers Fei the title of General of Restoring the Country, though Fei declines, craving a simple life with the one he loves. Yuet-nga bids him farewell as she prepares to marry into the prince’s circle, treasuring every quiet moment they shared.

That night, Mo-sin finds a moment to strike at the sleeping 13th Prince, yet cannot complete the act, their shared history and growing love revealing itself too late to save them from the truth. Yuet-nga uncovers Mo-sin’s treachery when she witnesses the devastation around the prince’s entourage, and she warns the 13th Prince. Mo-sin experiences a change of heart and warns him of her brother’s plan.

The next day, the 14th Prince leads his ruthless army into Fei’s village, slaughtering many villagers—89 lives lost—before Fei erupts in a torrent of rage and fights back with fierce, almost primal force. The confrontation shifts to the mausoleum, where the 14th Prince faces Fei, Yuet-nga, Mo-sin, and the rest of the prince’s circle. Mo-sin is mortally wounded, the 13th Prince falls, and Yuet-nga is gravely wounded. Fei enters the fray, determined to avenge the losses that haunt his community.

In a dramatic turn, Fei’s loyal killer whale companion, Neptune, arrives to turn the tide, slamming the tyrant with a powerful burst of force. Yuet-nga, though blinded in the struggle, must be protected as the fight culminates. The 14th Prince staggers upright only to be crushed when the King’s tomb splits and collapses upon him. Fei, battered but alive, narrates a haunting epilogue: he wakes beside Neptune in the open sea, the mausoleum sunk and the graves of Yuet-nga, the 13th Prince, the 14th Prince, and Mo-sin buried beneath the ruined structure. Years later, when Fei returns to the site, the land has reclaimed the remains and nature’s resilience glows anew—a poignant reminder of loss, memory, and the fragility of peace.
