Vadivelu, a butcher, lives with his 16-year-old sister Rani in a crowded slum. Their neighbor Selvi is secretly in love with Vadivelu and hopes to marry him. Rani, meanwhile, loves Ramesh, setting up competing affections and social pressure at the start.

Rani confesses her love for Ramesh, and Selvi learns of it. Selvi schemes to help the couple, while Vadivelu declares he will marry Selvi only after Rani is married. The arrangement creates a complicated triangle that drives the early plot.

Selvi disguises herself as a boy who is in love with Rani so that Ramesh can compete with the 'boy' for her. The ruse confuses Rani and tests loyalties, foreshadowing the tangled relationships to come. Selvi's deception becomes a catalyst for the ensuing schemes.

Rani and Ramesh fall in love and plan to marry. Selvi reveals that she is a girl and admits she orchestrated the plan so she could marry Vadivelu. She explains that her true aim was to secure Vadivelu's marriage by uniting Rani and Ramesh.

Paramasivan tries to bribe Vadivelu to vote for him by promising public bathrooms. Vadivelu refuses the bribe and counters with a demand for basic civic amenities. When Paramasivan pivots to a school proposal, Vadivelu loses patience and votes for his rival anyway.

During a tense car ride, Vadivu implies that one child is not Paramasivan's, confirming a painful suspicion. Govindan uses the confession to threaten Paramasivan with a payoff, i.e., a blackmail scheme. A road crash then throws Vadivu from the car, leaving her in a coma while the family struggles with the new secret.

Ramesh and Rani marry, but Paramasivan's family rejects the match due to poverty. He even locks Rani in a room, testing the couple's resolve. The wedding conflict pushes Vadivelu to step in and try to bridge the divide.

Selvi informs Vadivelu that Rani has married Ramesh, which enrages him. Rani adds that her in-laws will not accept her, deepening the family rift. Vadivelu goes to Paramasivan's house to plead for acceptance of Rani as his daughter-in-law.

During mounting tension, Sekar, Ramesh's elder brother, is suspected of not being Paramasivan's son after revelations from Sekar's father-in-law. The family debate about paternity triggers distrust and a scramble for rightful claims. The certainty of lineage becomes a central conflict.

Vadivelu learns that Selvi is actually Paramasivan and Vadivu's daughter when he notices they share the same pendant. Sekar accepts that he is adopted and reconciles with Selvi's adoptive father. The truth reshapes family bonds and loyalties.

During the Pooja festival, Sekar's father-in-law plots to plant bombs in baskets to influence the will. Vadivelu fights to protect the family, risking his life to stop the attack. The schemer is arrested in the aftermath.

With the danger behind them, Vadivelu asks Paramasivan for Selvi's hand in marriage, and Paramasivan finally gives his blessing. The family ends on a note of reconciliation and a hopeful future.
