Magamuni

Maga works as a cab driver in Chennai while also serving as a thug for a corrupt politician. He begins to crave a clean break from crime, motivated by his wife Viji and his five-year-old son Prabha. The narrative contrasts his world with that of Muni, who lives peacefully in a village near Erode.

Guru Narayanan, a rival mobster, tries to pin an earlier murder on Maga. He collaborates with Muthuraj to ensure Maga becomes the fall guy. The scheme sets off a dangerous cat-and-mouse dynamic between crime networks and the police.

Jayaraman, a local landlord, disapproves of his daughter Deepa's association with Muni and expresses a desire to eliminate him. This tension adds social pressure to the already volatile situation. The conflict highlights caste and class prejudices that complicate the two protagonists' fates.

Jayaraman's plan targets Muni with a snakebite on his farm, but Deepa intervenes and ensures Muni is saved and hospitalized. The incident intensifies the crossfire between Maga and Muni, now set against a backdrop of medical care and fear. It also deepens Deepa's involvement with Muni.

Maga goes to Jayaraman's house seeking help, but a drunken Jayaraman mistakes him for Muni and attacks him. In self-defense, Maga kills Jayaraman to safeguard himself and his family from a potentially deadly confrontation. The act marks a dark turn in Maga's already precarious situation.

Maga's friends reveal the truth about Muthuraj's betrayal and his role in Maga's predicament. Realizing the extent of the deceit shakes Maga and hardens his resolve to confront the real criminals. The revelation reframes the conflict around loyalty and revenge.

A corrupt inspector, Devaraj, hands Muni over to Guru Narayanan for revenge, and Muni is attacked by Narayanan's henchmen. This assault leaves Muni badly injured and hospitalized, intensifying the brothers' fates as Maga learns of Muni's plight. The coercive machinery of crime closes in on both brothers from opposite ends.

Viji is arrested by the authorities, and believing Maga is dead, she consumes despair and commits suicide by jumping into a well. Her death underscores the collateral damage of the criminal web surrounding Maga and Muni. The tragedy compounds Maga's responsibility for the danger around his family.

Maga learns the truth about Muni and discovers they are twins, revealed through a poignant flashback about their mother Deivanai. Maga executes a vengeful reckoning, killing Muthuraj, Guru Narayanan, and Devaraj, but is wounded by police and ends up in the same hospital as Muni. Muni dies, and a few months later Maga returns to Muni's village to honor his brother's path of literature and peace. In the final moment, Maga is asked for his name and answers, this time with resolve, choosing to live as Magamuni.
