Qui-Gon sensed an unusually strong connection to the Force in Anakin, something he had never felt before. During their meeting on Tatooine, he perceived that Anakin's midi-chlorian count was extraordinarily high, and his Force sensitivity appeared to surpass even that of Master Yoda. This, combined with ancient Jedi prophecies about a being who would bring balance to the Force, led Qui-Gon to believe Anakin was the prophesied Chosen One.

Earlier, Qui-Gon tells Obi-Wan he has 'seen a Jedi boy who seems connected to the Force' while on Tatooine.

The Jedi Council was concerned about Anakin's age and emotional attachments. At nine years old, Anakin was considered too old to begin Jedi training, which typically started in early childhood to allow apprentices to develop detachment from worldly connections. More significantly, the Council sensed fear in Anakin, fear of losing his mother Shmi, which they viewed as a vulnerability that could lead to the dark side. Despite Qui-Gon's insistence, the Council denied his request to train the boy.

During their meeting on Coruscant, the Council members exchange skeptical looks when Qui-Gon presents Anakin.

During the battle above Naboo, Anakin climbed into a starfighter and inadvertently activated its autopilot system. The ship automatically flew into the hangar of the Droid Control Ship, where Anakin accidentally fired torpedoes into the ship's reactor core. This caused the control ship to explode, which simultaneously deactivated the entire droid army on Naboo's surface. His actions, though entirely accidental, turned the tide of the battle.

Earlier, Anakin demonstrates exceptional piloting skills during the podrace, showing his natural affinity for vehicles.

Amidala was frustrated with the Senate's inaction and corruption. Despite the Trade Federation's invasion of her homeworld, the Republic failed to take decisive action. Chancellor Valorum appeared powerless to help, and the Senate was bogged down in bureaucratic procedures. Under Senator Palpatine's counsel, Amidala used her position to motion for a vote of no confidence, effectively removing Valorum and paving the way for new leadership that might address the crisis more aggressively.

Palpatine privately meets with Amidala on Coruscant, offering political advice and expressing concern for Naboo.

The Gungans provided the military force necessary to confront the Trade Federation's droid army. Although the Naboo had their own defense forces, they were insufficient to defeat the massive droid invasion on their own. By uniting with the Gungans under Boss Nass, Queen Amidala gained access to a large army and the ability to fight on two fronts, drawing the droids into battle while she personally led the infiltration of Theed to capture Viceroy Gunray.

Earlier, Qui-Gon attempts to convince Boss Nass to form an alliance with the surface dwellers, but initially fails.

During the climactic battle in Theed Palace, Darth Maul engaged Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan in a fierce lightsaber duel. After disarming and stabbing Qui-Gon from behind, Maul paused to gaze at his fallen enemy. Obi-Wan, fueled by rage and grief, retrieved his lightsaber and leapt over Qui-Gon, cutting Maul in half. Maul fell down a reactor shaft and died.

Maul appears earlier on Tatooine, engaging Qui-Gon in a brief but intense confrontation that establishes him as a formidable Sith warrior.

Qui-Gon believed so strongly that Anakin was the Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force that he made Obi-Wan promise to train him as his final wish. Even as he lay dying from Maul's blade, Qui-Gon's last words urged Obi-Wan to train Anakin, passing on his belief that the boy's fate was crucial to the Jedi Order's future and the balance of the Force.

Qui-Gon's earlier conviction about Anakin's destiny and his defiance of the Jedi Council's decision foreshadow his final request.

The Trade Federation's invasion was orchestrated by Darth Sidious, the hidden Sith Lord manipulating events from the shadows. Viceroy Nute Gunray was ordered by Sidious to blockade Naboo and eventually invade, ostensibly over a trade dispute. The real purpose was to create chaos in the Republic and distract the Senate while Sidious worked toward his ultimate goal of gaining political power through the election of a new Chancellor.

The mysterious hooded figure seen communicating with Gunray early in the film hints at Sidious's unseen manipulation.

Palpatine used the crisis to advance his political career significantly. By advising Amidala to call for a vote of no confidence against Chancellor Valorum, he positioned himself as a promising alternative leader. With Valorum removed, Palpatine was elected Supreme Chancellor, granting him immense power within the Republic. Unknown to everyone, Palpatine was secretly Darth Sidious, and the entire conflict was part of his plan to rise to power while remaining hidden.

Palpatine consistently offers counsel to Amidala and expresses dissatisfaction with the current government, subtly positioning himself as the solution.

Anakin's freedom was won through the podrace, but his mother remained enslaved because Qui-Gon could only negotiate for Anakin's release, Watto refused to free Shmi separately. Qui-Gon believed Anakin's destiny as the Chosen One required him to leave immediately to begin Jedi training, and that lingering would only create more attachment. Anakin was forced to leave his mother behind, promising he would return to free her one day.

Anakin's emotional departure from his mother shows his deep attachment, which the Jedi Council later cites as a concern.

Jar Jar was appointed as a general primarily because of his connection to the Naboo and his role in establishing the alliance. After Queen Amidala revealed her identity and convinced Boss Nass to join forces, she specifically requested that Jar Jar be given a position of leadership. Jar Jar's bravery and loyalty, despite his clumsiness, earned him this rank. His promotion also symbolized the new unity between the Gungans and Naboo.

Jar Jar proves his loyalty and bravery by helping the Jedi navigate the underwater routes and joining the mission despite many mishaps.

During the ambush on Tatooine, Qui-Gon engaged Darth Maul in a lightsaber duel while Obi-Wan held off additional enemies. The fight was brief but intense. Qui-Gon managed to retreat to his ship and escape before Maul could defeat him. This encounter was merely a preview of their eventual fatal confrontation on Naboo.

The dark hooded warrior's arrival foreshadows the greater threat he poses throughout the film.
