Former hit man Nicky Pardo lives on the edge, continually rolling the dice with a stylized pistol as a ritualized test of control. Flashbacks reveal a devastating past: in a confrontation, he unknowingly killed the son of a feared rival, known as the Scorpion. That act triggers a brutal retaliation where the Scorpion tortures Pardo and his pregnant wife, forces Pardo to end his wife’s suffering, and leaves Pardo for dead in a harsh desert. He survives after pulling the trigger three times, a grim omen that follows him into the present. Now, under the moniker Redeemer, he moves through a world scarred by crime, delivering a stark ultimatum to former drug gangs—repent or die. His very name becomes a warning, a rumor that travels faster than the bullets, and the Scorpion soon closes in, determined to finish what he started.
In a dust-choked town, Pardo crosses paths with a local villager, Agustin, who has already faced down danger and dragged a bag of money into light. Agustin’s insistence on helping a friend, Antonia, becomes a turning point: the money is donated to a church and then redirected toward a perilous plan to aid Antonia’s son’s operation. Pardo, sensing a chance to strike a balance between vengeance and mercy, offers a trade—the cash back to the gang in exchange for letting the town go free. The gang, initially resistant, agrees to a fragile bargain once the money is recovered. Yet they quickly realize they’re dealing with the Redeemer, a man who cannot be easily contained. He is placed under heavy guard while the gang searches for the money, and when their efforts come up empty, Pardo is forced to take lethal action, killing the roomful of men before they can shoot him. The gang’s boss, Steve Bradock, responds with cold pragmatism, ordering a brutal crackdown and a fresh wave of fear.
Back at the center of the town’s drama, Agustin’s generosity surfaces again as he gives the money to Antonia to secure her son’s operation. Pardo’s initial refusal to let Antonia keep the money gradually softens as she confronts him with memories of lost family and the unspoken toll of violence. The moment becomes a crucible for Pardo: he watches Antonia and Agustin together as he centers himself in his own ritual of reckoning. Antonia’s quiet counsel—that he must acknowledge his dark side and forgive himself rather than waiting for a sign from a higher power—lands with weight. Pardo continues his calculations, learning the gang’s next drug deal and moving to extinguish it, taking out one of Bradock’s assassins in the process. The pursuit intensifies as the Scorpion arrives in town, striking down anyone who stands in his path. Bradock’s second-in-command warns him to flee, but Bradock makes a different choice, removing his lieutenant, promoting a new underling named Piedra, and insisting that his men craft a nickname for the new recruit that will sound as fearsome as their operation.
A warehouse raid becomes the battlefield for a decisive confrontation. Pardo clears the space, and Piedra and Pardo meet in a tense duel that ends with Pardo’s victory. The exchange reveals Bradock’s headquarters as the next target, and a stark revelation emerges: the Scorpion has already killed Bradock. The Scorpion finally closes the gap, knocking Pardo unconscious and leaving the two hunters in a torpid stalemate that stretches the nerves of everyone involved.
When Pardo awakens, he finds that Agustin and Antonia have been taken prisoner. The Scorpion’s grim truth comes to light: his killings have extended to everyone Pardo has helped, a macabre proof that redemption can be hollow and that violence can circle back to destroy what one tries to save. The Scorpion demands Agustin play Russian roulette; Agustin refuses, and Antonia is wounded as Agustin is killed. The Scorpion pressures Antonia to play along as a substitute for Pardo’s death, but Pardo insists the Scorpion would never kill him without forcing him to endure suffering first. In a tense disarmament, Antonia and the Scorpion stand down, and the two men face off once more.
Pardo defeats the Scorpion in a final, devastating showdown. Antonia hands him the stylized pistol, and instead of delivering a fatal strike, Pardo steps back and offers a final, personal apology for killing the Scorpion’s son. He returns the pistol to the Scorpion, telling him that this act is the only way he can hope to reunite the Scorpion with his boy. The two men exchange a look that holds the weight of lost years, and as the two walk away, a distant gunshot echoes into the quiet, leaving the ending open to interpretation while underscoring the cost of vengeance and the uneasy possibility of forgiveness.
