In the winter of 1974, a young Thaddeus Sivana, along with his older brother and father, encounters a magical incident involving a magic 8 ball. This event transports him to the Rock of Eternity, where he meets a powerful wizard who reveals mystical statues representing the Seven Deadly Sins.

While at the Rock of Eternity, Thaddeus undergoes a purity test as part of the wizard's evaluation for worthiness. He attempts to touch the eye of envy but fails, leading to his return to his father’s car and resulting in a tragic accident that profoundly impacts his family.

Fast forward to the modern day, we meet Billy Batson, who is enjoying a day at the carnival with his mother. During the event, he loses a valuable pendant, and in the ensuing chase, he becomes separated from his mother and eventually gets picked up by the police.

After being taken from the carnival, Billy is placed in a foster home with the Vasquez family, which includes siblings like Eugene, Darla, Pedro, Mary, and Freddy. Initially adjusting to his new life proves challenging, but Billy slowly begins to bond with his new family.

Meanwhile, the adult Thaddeus Sivana becomes obsessed with the visions from his childhood connection to the wizard. His quest for power leads him back to the wizard’s lair, where he begins unleashing the Seven Deadly Sins, marking him as a formidable antagonist.
