David's pod is breached by Calvin just as he attempts to guide it into deep space. This final confrontation ends with David's desperate fight for survival as Miranda escapes to Earth in the other pod.

The earthbound pod, containing David, ultimately lands in water. Upon its opening by fishermen, it is revealed that David is alive but encased in a web-like substance, raising questions about the nature of survival after the ordeal.
