Viren, a young NRI from London, returns to his homeland in Rajasthan for the first time with his former governess, Dai Jaa. He is momentarily unsettled by the heat and traditional customs, but his meeting with Pallavi marks the beginning of a complex attraction. Dai Jaa hints that Pallavi is eight years older, yet Viren remains undeterred by the age gap.

Viren meets Pallavi and falls in love with her almost instantly. The two become friends, and Pallavi’s father had helped Viren’s late father, deepening their bond. The romance forms against a backdrop of family ties and changing social expectations.

After Viren loses a civil legal dispute over property, Pallavi's father dies of a heart attack, leaving Pallavi devastated. Viren consoles her during the mourning ceremony, showing his commitment. He reluctantly helps arrange Pallavi's marriage to Siddharth and leaves for London with a heavy heart.

Viren, moved by Pallavi's sorrow, arranges her marriage to Siddharth Kumar Bhatnagar and travels back to London with a burdened heart. He hides his true feelings to protect Pallavi, effectively stepping back from the romance. The tragedy of what could have been begins to cast a long shadow over both their lives.

Tragically, Pallavi and Siddharth die in a major car accident while Pallavi is pregnant. Viren learns the news and rushes to the hospital, where their daughter Pooja survives. Viren and Dai Jaa mourn deeply, and Viren entrusts Pooja's upbringing to Dai Jaa.

Two decades pass as Viren continues to visit Rajasthan each year for Pallavi and Siddharth's death anniversary. He avoids meeting Pooja on her birthday, the day Pallavi died, to shield himself from fresh pain. Pooja grows up bearing a striking resemblance to Pallavi, fueling perceptions of destiny's cruel game.

Pooja travels to London with Dai Jaa, and Viren's old friend Prem notices his lingering longing for Pallavi. Anita Malhotra, Viren's new girlfriend in London, senses the tension and tries to win Viren's affection, not realizing how deeply Pooja affects him.

Pooja becomes possessive of Viren, while Anita attempts to steer him away. Pooja confronts Anita and asserts that she is related to Viren through love for Pallavi, not blood, triggering a clash of loyalties. Prem remains skeptical about Viren's ability to move on from Pallavi.

Pooja discovers a portrait of Pallavi sketched by Viren and misreads it as a portrait of herself, confessing love to him. Viren reveals the truth—that the portrait is of Pallavi and that his heart still longed for her. Pooja feels humiliated and declares she wants to return to India.

Prem urges Viren to confront his lingering feelings for Pooja, emphasizing the difference between Pallavi and Pooja. Dai Jaa presses Pooja to consider marriage, but she remains firm in her resolve. The emotional crossroads deepen the conflict within Viren's heart.

Back in London, Viren agrees to marry Anita so Pooja will consider marriage, but Pooja unexpectedly tells Dai Jaa that she never wants to marry. The arrangement collapses, leaving the characters at an uneasy standoff about the future.

Viren and Prem travel to India to surprise Dai Jaa and Pooja, only to learn that Pooja has vowed never to marry. Meanwhile, Viren contemplates his own future and the possibility of a life without Anita. The emotional stakes rise as both confront their true desires.

In a village show, Pooja narrates a tragic folk tale and suddenly beams with happiness upon spotting Viren, lying about having already married. Viren confronts her, admitting he never intended to marry Anita and that he loves Pooja now. Pallavi's memory is clarified as not reciprocated, freeing Viren and Pooja to be together.
