In 1951, Vidya is a famous singer who is deeply in love with Ranvir Singh, a powerful businessman. When Vidya discovers she is pregnant, Ranvir Singh wants the pregnancy aborted. Vidya refuses, chooses to break away, and leaves with her brother without informing him. Tragically, Vidya dies while giving birth to a baby boy. Her brother, overwhelmed by the situation, hands the newborn to his driver, Gangu Ganpat with orders to kill him. Yet [Gangu Ganpat] decides against murder, and, amid his own struggles and a longing for money, he ends up raising the child himself, naming him Heera.
