Kadaikutty Singam

Perunazhi Gunasingam is a successful farmer living a peaceful life with his family and his father, Ranasingam. Thirty years earlier, Ranasingam, who deeply desired a son, faced repeated disappointments as his first wife, [Vanavan Madevi], failed to give him a male heir after bearing four daughters. Desperate for a son, Vanavan arranged for Ranasingam to remarry her younger sister, [Panchavan Madhevi], to try again. However, soon after Panchavan’s pregnancy, Ranasingam’s elder daughter, [Mangamma Rani], became pregnant out of wedlock, leading to a complicated family situation that caused heartbreak for Ranasingam. Despite the birth of a boy by Mangamma and a girl by Panchavan, Ranasingam was overwhelmed by sorrow and lost hope for a male heir.

Years later, Vanavan unexpectedly became pregnant and gave birth to a son named Gunasingam, who grew up to be a contented, cheerful young man. Now 27 years old, Gunasingam is an educated, natural farmer dedicated to sustainable farming practices and living harmoniously with nature. His life takes a turn when he falls deeply in love with Kannukiniyal “Iniya”, the daughter of a wealthy man, Thillainayagam. Their love faces opposition, especially from Iniya’s family, which insists Gunasingam must win their approval by convincing his sisters to accept his marriage to their daughters. Despite the objections, Gunasingam is determined, motivated by his genuine affection for Iniya.

Complications deepen when Kodiyarasu, played by Soundara Raja, seeks revenge against Gunasingam due to past injustices, including a confrontation that results in Kodiyarasu being imprisoned after being beaten by Gunasingam. Additionally, [Chellamma], Gunasingam’s sister, attempts suicide upon learning about her brother’s engagement, but she is saved, showcasing the emotional struggles within the family.

Family conflicts escalate as Panchavan, feeling marginalized and disrespected—she criticizes her sister for decisions made without her consent, such as her marriage and her granddaughter Andal’s marriage prospects—decides to leave Ranasingam’s household. In a twist of revenge, Kodiyarasu offers to marry Chellamma, an offer which she accepts, further complicating familial ties. Some family members, including Thamarai, Gunasingam’s brother-in-law, are hesitant about participating in the wedding, but Gunasingam manages to unite his relatives with a heartfelt speech during a crucial family gathering.

After a series of emotional confrontations and physical altercations, including Kodiyarasu being beaten and returned to prison, peace begins to settle. Gunasingam’s family members, including his brothers-in-law, reconcile their differences, and in the end, Gunasingam marries Iniya amidst the family’s blessings. The couple later welcome a daughter, and they make the responsible decision to adopt permanent contraceptive measures to prevent future complications, emphasizing a theme of family unity, love, and mature responsibility.

Throughout the film, themes of familial duty, love, revenge, and reconciliation are explored with depth and sensitivity, highlighting the importance of understanding and forgiveness within relationships. The story portrays a complex web of emotions and decisions that shape the lives of everyone involved, ultimately culminating in harmony and hope for the future.
