Jagdishwar “Jolly” Mishra is a Lucknow-based lawyer who lives with his wife Pushpa Pandey and their son. Though he works as a humble assistant to one of Lucknow’s most famous lawyers, Mr. Rizvi, a mentor whose career his father served for three decades, Jolly is street-smart and harbors dreams of building his own law chamber. In a bid to raise the funds, he deceives a widow, Hina Qasim, telling her that Rizvi will take her case and the fee will be 200,000 rupees. The moment she discovers the lie, tragedy follows as she ends her life.

Jolly soon learns a harsher truth: Hina’s husband, Iqbal Qasim, was killed in a supposed fake encounter on 13 August 2015, just after their marriage. Inspector Suryaveer Singh, who framed him as Mohammed Iqbal Quadri, a terrorist, in official records, also ordered the death of a fellow constable to present the incident as genuine. The weight of this revelation drives Jolly to confront the system, transforming guilt into a mission to seek real justice rather than personal gain.

Driven to action, Jagdishwar “Jolly” Mishra files a PIL on Hina’s behalf, sparking a high-stakes legal drama that pits a struggling lawyer against entrenched power. The case attracts attention from Lucknow’s legal establishment, and Inspector Suryaveer Singh hires the city’s top advocate to counter Jolly, a veteran figure who must contend with a wary judiciary. The judge, Justice Sunderlal Tripathi, grants a hearing but cautions Jolly to bring solid evidence, setting the stage for a relentless search for truth.

To assemble his case, Jolly secures critical documents—FIR copies and related papers—by enlisting the help of a bookie, Guru Ji, in Varanasi, paying him a hefty sum in exchange for the necessary papers. He also tracks down Ramkumar Bhadauria, the son of the murdered constable, hoping to uncover deeper context. But the authorities push back: Sachin Kantilal Mathur leverages power to tamper with the narco-test footage of a key witness, challenging the integrity of the proceedings. Despite the pressure, Justice Tripathi remains steadfast, and the disciplinary process takes an unexpected turn when the committee chair is revealed to be Rizvi himself, who grants Jolly a brief window to prove his case.

A crucial breakthrough arrives when Jolly and Pushpa examine the wedding album of Hina and Iqbal and notice a Kashmir-based officer, Fahim Bhat, whose testimony could unlock the truth. Jolly travels to Kashmir and confirms Fahim’s account, exposing that Qasim was not the true terrorist and that Fahim had filed a complaint against Singh. Fahim, now suspended and arrested on a spurious charge, corroborates the broader pattern of fake encounters.

Returning to Lucknow, Jolly presses the case with the support of key officials, including the police commissioner, V.K. Paul. The courtroom becomes a battlefield where truth, testimony, and ethical courage clash with manipulation and fear. Mohammad Iqbal Quadri, who had posed as a Brahmin Pandit, is confronted with the truth, and Iqbal is forced to acknowledge his double role. The proceedings culminate in Justice Tripathi declaring Qasim innocent, ordering Quadri’s arrest, and sentencing Inspector Singh and his accomplices to life imprisonment for murder, evasion of evidence, and presenting false testimony—bringing a hard-won sense of justice to those wronged by the earlier carnage and deception.
