A Star Wars-style crawl opens the story, detailing a resistance led by Princess Serina that has stolen vital radio transmissions from a tyrannical Galactic Alliance. The Darth Vader-like Lord Buckethead closes in on the prize, but a faulty navigation jump drops his ship onto Earth instead of its intended battlefield. Unaware of their misstep, the minions he commands march into a quiet suburb, setting off a baffling sequence of misunderstandings and escapes.
He immediately mistakes Chester, the town baker, for the galactic hero Captain Starfighter; and later, Karen, a diligent employee at a local transmission repair shop, for Princess Serina, abducting her for interrogation. Into this confusion steps Max, a timid exterminator who dreams of passing a big exam that could secure him a promotion. He stumbles into the chaos and, sensing trouble, helps Karen slip away.
The chase pushes them into the woods, but soon they are captured and brought aboard the alien ship. The rank-and-file minions realize their blunder as they confront the stubborn, imperious Buckethead, whose intolerance for insubordination frequently ends in execution. Nevertheless, Max and Karen manage a renewed escape, slipping through a chaotic detour in a nearby superstore. Their escape seems to bring them to a moment of relief just as Max faces a pivotal exam that could alter his future.
But the threat returns with a vengeance when Lord Buckethead arrives, seizing Karen and demanding the coveted radio transmissions. The town’s military response arrives, yet the ship’s defenses overwhelm them, leaving the humans in a precarious stand. Seizing the chance, Max sneaks aboard Buckethead’s ship to rescue Karen, and the two narrowly slip away as the vessel prepares to lift off.
Meanwhile, Buckethead’s loyalists finally push back against his abuse and eject him from the ship, casting him onto Earth in a literal mutiny. He gives chase, cornering the pair, but a shocking turn comes when Chester emerges in a Superman-like outfit and reveals that he is actually Captain Starfighter. In a decisive moment, Captain Starfighter dispatches Buckethead, ending the immediate threat.
With the alien craft finally retreating into the sky, the town breathes a cautious sigh of relief, and Max and Karen find their way back to ordinary life—though the memory of the encounter lingers, hinting at the odd, interstellar possibilities that sit just beyond the horizon. The adventure closes on Earth, leaving a sense that quiet neighborhoods may still harbor extraordinary secrets.
