Gary Wallace [Anthony Michael Hall] and Wyatt Donnelly [Ilan Mitchell-Smith] are the quintessential nerd duo at Shermer High School, navigating daily humiliations at the hands of the senior crowd led by Ian and Max. Fueled by the 1931 film Frankenstein and a surge of reckless curiosity, they decide to build a “virtual woman” using Wyatt’s computer—an amplified, artificial partner who could erase the age-old ache of rejection and quiet their inner doubts. The project begins as a cautious experiment but quickly grows into something bolder, as they infuse their creation with everything they can conceive of to fashion the perfect dream companion.

What begins as an isolated experiment takes a dramatic turn when they hook electrodes to a doll and tamper with a government computer system for more power. A sudden power surge unleashes Lisa Lisa, a beautiful, intelligent, and distinctly self-assured woman with reality-bending powers. Lisa materializes not just as a pretty face but as a force that can bend the world to fit Gary and Wyatt’s desires. She conjures a pink 1959 Cadillac Eldorado convertible to whisk the boys away to a blues dive bar in Chicago, and she uses her powers to manufacture fake IDs, giving them a taste of an adult, carefree nightlife they’d previously only imagined.

When they return home, the celebration is short-lived. Chet Chet, Wyatt’s older brother, confronts them with cash demands, and Lisa agrees to keep her existence a secret, at least for the moment. Yet Lisa quickly discerns a deeper truth: Gary and Wyatt are good-hearted boys who need a proper outlet to unwind and loosen their rigid nerves. Together they attempt to recapture the same magic in a more controlled way, but the plan quickly spirals beyond their intentions. A humiliating incident at the mall escalates tensions with their tormentors, and Lisa orchestrates one more bold move—she lets the bullies know there will be a party at Wyatt’s house, then cruises off in a gleaming Porsche to set everything in motion.

The party scene becomes a churning mix of chaos and spectacle. Lisa meets Gary’s parents, Al and Lucy, confronting them with her blunt, unfiltered perspective. As the dawn approaches, Deb and Hilly are freed from the danger and, in the aftermath, the emotions shift in surprising ways. The bikers depart, and the next morning reveals a house in disarray: a snowstorm in Wyatt’s room, the eerie missile, and a sense that Lisa’s work—like any powerful magic—has its own consequences.
