The once-contentious bond between Max and John has finally evolved into a friendly détente, as their children, Melanie and Jacob, embark on the exciting journey toward marriage. John’s new wife, Ariel, revels in the joy of their marriage, while the two old pals continue their playful trade of jabs, affectionately calling each other “moron” and “putz” with a light-hearted spirit.

As the seasons change and the fishing calendar turns to spring and summer, the hunt for the elusive “Catfish Hunter” becomes the talk of the town. However, the recent passing of the bait shop owner, Chuck, creates a gap that Maria Ragetti is determined to fill by converting the space into a high-end Italian restaurant. Nostalgia prompts Max and John to join forces for a series of playful pranks to derail Maria’s plans. Their initial successes come to a halt when Ariel learns of their antics and insists that John must apologize to Maria. After reluctantly doing so, John finds himself ostracized from his own home.

In a twist of fate, Max and Maria discover a mutual passion for fishing that ignites a budding relationship between them. At the same time, the chemistry between Maria’s mother Francesca and John’s father J.W. begins to flourish. However, complications arise for Jacob and Melanie as their engagement faces pressure from prying eyes, leading them to call off their wedding. This turn of events propels John and Max back into their mischievous ways, with John plotting revenge by sabotaging Max’s fishing gear, while Max retaliates by exposing John in an embarrassing way at a local department store.

As the stakes grow higher, Ariel’s patience wears thin, straining her marriage with John. At the restaurant, Francesca worries about Maria’s increasing closeness with Max, fearing that her daughter might be headed toward another failed relationship—just like her own five past marriages.

Faced with the reality of her circumstances, Maria hesitantly pulls away from Max. John takes the initiative to bridge the gap between Jacob and Melanie, helping them navigate their relationship troubles while working to restore peace with Ariel. This paves the way for Max to engage Maria in a much-needed conversation, leading to her newfound willingness to embrace a relationship with him after her mother gives her blessing—thanks to John’s thoughtful mediation.

With love rekindled, John and Max turn their attention back to the fishing quest for the “Catfish Hunter.” In a triumphant climax, they successfully catch the elusive catfish and, remembering J.W., release it back into the lake. As they hurry away from their fishing escapades, they realize time is against them, rushing to a wedding that they think they are late for—only to find it’s actually Max and Maria’s big day (with Jacob and Melanie opting for a more intimate elopement). On their way to the honeymoon, a surprise twist awaits when John’s previous prank unexpectedly brings along Max’s one-eyed bulldog, Lucky, as an unplanned travel companion.

With the former bait shop’s transformation into a restaurant and bait shop, Ragetti’s symbolizes the essence of second chances, showcasing how love and friendship can flourish anew amid the chaos of life.
