As Muriel Donnelly (Judi Dench) and Sonny Kapoor (Dev Patel) touch down in sunny San Diego, California, they set out on an ambitious journey to convince hotel magnate Ty Burley to fund their exciting new project: a second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel located in the vibrant landscape of India. However, their proposal comes with a twist; Ty stipulates that a secret evaluator from his company will travel anonymously to India to gauge the project’s viability.
In Jaipur, the situation is no less tense. Evelyn Greenslade (Judi Dench) finds herself presented with a tantalizing job opportunity as a fabric buyer, yet it also raises troubling questions about her age and the demands the role might entail. Her romantic interest, Douglas Ainslie (Bill Nighy), is troubled by the thought of losing precious moments with her and hopes she will meet his daughter.
