Get Married

Mae is a tomboy living in a Jakarta village with her three male friends Eman, Beni, and Guntoro. Her parents worry she has never acted feminine or begun working, fearing she will be undesirable to potential husbands. They also fear her close friendships could complicate Mae's prospects.

At first they bring in potential teachers, hoping to spark Mae's interest, but she remains uninterested. The family then introduces a young athlete, yet Mae shows no desire to pursue him and uses a red handkerchief to signal her friends to drive him away.

The athlete tells his boss, Rendy, about Mae, and Rendy decides to visit the village to meet her. Rendy is tall, handsome, wealthy, and well educated, making him an ideal match in the parents' eyes.

Rendy arrives and instantly falls for Mae upon seeing her. Mae also seems intrigued by the wealthy, educated man, setting the stage for a fast-developing romance.

Eman, who is standing watch, is color blind and misreads Mae's signal. He, along with Beni and Guntoro, confronts Rendy in the village, beating him up and prompting a dangerous confrontation.

Meanwhile Mae's mother falls ill with worry that Mae still has not married. In her distress she threatens to return as a ghost, escalating the pressure on Mae to wed.

Mae promises to marry soon and instructs Eman, Beni, and Guntoro to decide who should be her husband. The three friends accept the challenge, turning the matchmaking into a village competition.

In the competition to choose the groom, Guntoro is initially selected as the groom. The villagers cheer as the unlikely candidate advances toward marriage.

However, after Guntoro and Eman fall ill, the decision shifts and Beni is chosen as Mae's groom instead. The community adjusts quickly to the new plan.

Rendy arrives with his motorcycle gang, furious at losing Mae's hand and begins fighting with the villagers to reclaim his honour. Tensions spike as the wedding ceremony nears.

Mae joins the fray in her wedding kebaya and confronts Rendy, surprising everyone. Her presence shifts the momentum, and together they manage to calm the brawl.

Following the showdown, Mae and Rendy marry in a ceremony attended by villagers and even the motorcycle gang. The union marks the end of Mae's quest for a husband and the start of their life together.
