Gargi

Gargi Sai Pallavi is a schoolteacher from a struggling, close-knit family built around her father Brahmanandam, who works as a security guard in a city apartment building, her mother who crafts and sells homemade rice batter, and her younger sister Akshara who is still in middle school. When Brahmanandam, along with four other men, is accused of assaulting a child, Gargi becomes unyielding in her mission to prove his innocence. He is the man she has always seen as a hero, the person who protected her as a child from a predatory teacher and urged her to stand up to evil, and she believes in his goodness even as the community turns hostile.

As public opinion turns vicious, Gargi and her family are abandoned not only by strangers, but by a longtime family friend, Banu Prakash. In the midst of this social siege, a more cautious ally steps forward: his assistant, Indrans Kaliyaperumal, a lawyer with little to lose, agrees to take the case. The courtroom becomes a battleground where the truth must fight through layers of fear, doubt, and trauma.

During the hearing, Indrans Kaliyaperumal questions the investigating officer and uncovers a troubling anomaly: the victim was medicated with a high dose of barbiturates, a detail that makes her initial identification of Brahmanandam unclear and potentially inadmissible. This revelation doesn’t just complicate the case; it reshapes the entire narrative around what happened on that day and who might be responsible.

The investigation deepens when the victim’s father reveals a painful truth: he was the one who influenced the child to identify Brahmanandam as the culprit, driven by his own trauma and fear for his daughter’s safety. The new perspective casts doubt on the reliability of the identification and the evidence that had seemed so damning, allowing the defense to secure conditional bail for Brahmanandam.

As the legal team presses on, a crucial testimony emerges from another quarter. A colleague of Gargi’s father, who had earlier claimed to have been at home all day, admits—while intoxicated—that he was the first to discover the child and he alerted Brahmanandam. This admission shakes Gargi’s confidence in her father’s earlier claims that he had been drinking that day. Determined to uncover the truth, she revisits the child, showing a photograph of the fifth suspect to test the reliability of the testimony.

The tension culminates when the child identifies the fifth culprit, resulting in his arrest and conviction. This moment is wrenching for Gargi as she confronts the enormity of what transpired and the ways memory and manipulation can intersect with justice.
