As the former child star Ricky Coogin (William Sadler) recounts his bizarre experiences during an interview, it becomes evident that his gradual slide into madness initiated when he agreed to endorse E.E.S.’s hazardous fertilizer, Zygrot 24, in South America. Initially filled with doubt, Ricky was persuaded by the allure of a hefty paycheck offered by the company’s CEO and soon found himself on a fateful flight to the quaint town of Santa Flan, accompanied by his friend Ernie (Alex Zuckerman).

During their journey through the skies, Ricky encountered an enthusiastic admirer, Stuey Gluck (Morgan Fairchild), who fervently warned him against promoting Zygrot 24. Tragically, Stuey’s desperate plea was lost amid the deafening roar of the engines as he plummeted from the plane. Upon their arrival in Santa Flan, Ricky and Ernie found themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of protests led by determined environmentalists, vehemently opposing both the pesticide and Ricky’s connection to it. Here, Ricky met Julie (Brooke Shields), a passionate activist who quickly captivated his heart.

Using cunning, Ernie tricked Julie into thinking they were both environmental allies, while Ricky feigned severe injuries to gain her sympathy, convincing her to join them on a protest trip. Yet, their true identities eventually came to light, forcing them into a sticky situation. Their escapades took an unexpected detour to a local freak show called Freek Land, where they encountered the mysterious owner and mad scientist, Elijah C. Skuggs (Deep Roy). In a shocking twist, Skuggs transformed Julie and Ernie into conjoined twins, and Ricky into a grotesque green creature.

Amid the eccentric company of freaks—such as Ortiz the Dog Boy (Henry Carbo), Worm (Michael Stoyanov), Cowboy, the Bearded Lady, and Sockhead—Ricky bravely showcased his hidden talents in a Shakespearean monologue that left the audience in awe. However, sighting an E.E.S. agent lurking among the crowd filled him with dread, prompting a desperate leap from the stage that was met only with jeers and a blood-curdling incident that sent spectators fleeing.

The following day, the shocking news arrived that Stuey had survived and was working to exploit their incredible tale. Yet, Ricky’s escape attempts were thwarted by Skuggs’s menacing henchmen. As Skuggs unveiled his malevolent scheme to fully mutate Ricky, intending to use him to eliminate the other freaks in the upcoming show, Ricky found himself at a pivotal moment in his life. A confrontation with Ortiz led to an unforeseen shift, thrusting Ricky into a leadership role among the misfits, marking the start of his chaotic journey.

Delving deeper into the murky truth, Ricky uncovered a sinister conspiracy by E.E.S. to supply Skuggs with Zygrot, a lethal serum engineered to mutate humanity into submissive beings under their control. Stuey, unintentionally exposed to this concoction, morphed into a terrifying, powerful being. Unperturbed by his grotesque appearance, he joined forces with Julie and Ernie to confront Toad, the loyal henchman of Skuggs, in a gripping showdown that ultimately led to Toad’s demise.

In a frenzied turn of events, Skuggs’s plan began to unravel as the executives from E.E.S. betrayed him, seeking to siphon off his technology with the support of their agents. In a moment of desperation, Elijah unleashed a Zygrot bazooka, inciting a primal wrath that transformed the would-be thieves into an amorphous form, ultimately solidifying into a monstrous, fleshy shoe. Just as Ricky geared up to finish off Stuey, wisdom from Cowboy ignited a spark of mercy within him, leading Ricky to spare his friend and refocus his attention on Elijah, delivering a blow that left the villain’s spine shattered.

In a surreal twist, Elijah offered Ricky a remedy disguised as macaroons, which was met with a resounding punch that sent him spiraling into a vat of Zygrot 24. The climax approached as the FBI swooped in, reacting to Stuey’s exposé and finally bringing down Skuggs in his alter ego, Skye Daley.

In the aftermath, Ricky and the majority of the freaks returned to their original forms, although Worm remained with an unusual distaste for macaroons. Ortiz triumphed in capturing the elusive squirrel that had been his obsession, while Stuey emerged from the experience as a formidable super-freak. As this extraordinary saga drew to a close, Ricky, Julie, Ernie, and their newfound friends stood witness to Skuggs’s futile attempts at resurgence.

The story culminated in a decisive final confrontation, with Julie and Ernie once again taking down Skuggs. As Ricky and Julie shared a heartfelt kiss, the camera captured a haunting image of Skuggs, his eyes locked on his next move—hinting at an unending cycle of chaos and upheaval.
