Nandini is born into a village ruled by powerful zamindars whose word is law for everyone who works their land. To celebrate her arrival, the three brothers host a feast, inviting the village’s music from the memory of a singer who has passed away, and they raise the newborn as if she were their own daughter. An astrologer’s prophecy promises that she will bring great happiness to the family, but also that her marriage should be dictated by her own choice rather than by her brothers. Alarmed by the idea of losing control over her future, the brothers keep Nandini close, deliberately limiting her exposure to the outside world. She is educated at home, and whenever she steps beyond the house, every man is warned to hide from her, with dire consequences for those who dare gaze upon her. As Nandini grows into puberty, only a handful of people remain around her: the service staff and a small cadre of bodyguards. He is a naive, good-hearted soul raised by his widowed mother, Kanthamma. Chanti never attends school; instead, he fills his days with songs and performances that delight the villagers. Fate begins to tilt when a scuffle erupts between Chanti and the bodyguards, and his natural fighting spirit, paired with his trusting nature, catches the brothers’ attention. They hire him to become Nandini’s bodyguard and personal assistant, partly out of respect for his heart and partly to keep an eye on the girl who stirs something in the household.

Nandini, however, feels the weight of her restricted life acutely. She longs for freedom and a chance to understand the world beyond the manor walls. In a rare act of defiance, she persuades Chanti to guide her through the village, to see its streets and people away from the hushed whispers of the house. Chanti complies, gentle and unassuming, and this small adventure sets in motion a change she hadn’t anticipated. The experience takes a toll on her health, and when she grows sick, the brothers blame Chanti, beating him for the transgression of letting her roam. Nandini, now beginning to care for him in a way she’s never allowed herself, shares her medicine with him. He comes to see her not just as a protected royal figure but as someone who truly understands him—almost like a mother, the person he has always lacked. This moment deepens their bond and awakens a feeling in Nandini she cannot ignore: love.

A crisis then tests their fragile connection. At a factory inauguration owned by the brothers, a worker who has spied on Nandini plots to take her life. Chanti overhears the plan and springs into action to shield her. In the act of reaching toward her to protect her, he inadvertently makes a public misstep that becomes a focal point of scandal. The brothers’ anger flares at the scandal, and Chanti is beaten severely. Nandini is torn between loyalty and guilt, but she speaks up in his defense, insisting that Chanti would not act with malice in public. The sister-in-law notices the transformation and pushes the brothers to arrange a proper marriage for Nandini, fearing the consequences of a long-standing, unstable situation. Kanthamma, his mother, steps in to shield him and pulls him away from the village, hoping to protect him from further danger.
