Chanti

Nandini is born into a powerful Zamindar family that rules the village. To celebrate, her three brothers host a grand feast attended by relatives and villagers. The birth signals the family's dependence on her future happiness and foreshadows the control they will exert over her life.

When Nandini is five, an astrologer predicts she will bring great happiness to the family, but her marriage must be her own choice. The brothers fear this independence and begin to tighten their grip on her. They shield her from outside influences to preserve their authority over her future.

Nandini is educated within the house, and whenever she goes outside, men are warned away with dire consequences. The home becomes a fortress where she is kept under constant surveillance. Her longing for freedom grows as she learns only what her brothers allow.

Chanti, the naive yet good-hearted singer-in-training who grew up in the village, catches the brothers' attention with his courage. He defeats Nandini's bodyguards in a fight, impressing them with his fighting spirit and gentleness. The brothers hire him to protect and serve Nandini, beginning his tangled involvement with her life.

Nandini begins to resent her confinement and secretly asks Chanti to show her the village beyond the walls. They sneak out together, an outing that thrills her but risks discovery. Chanti is punished by the brothers when the escape is discovered, and Nandini feels guilty for the trouble she has caused him.

During the inauguration of a new factory owned by the brothers, a worker plots to kill Nandini. Chanti overhears the plan and rushes to protect her, unintentionally reacting in public in a way that makes the incident look compromising. Nandini defends him, arguing that his actions were protective rather than inappropriate, inflaming the brothers.

The brothers beat Chanti after the misunderstanding, and Nandini asks for a chance to explain. He quits on the spot to avoid further violence, while she apologizes in silence and implores him to reconsider. She then persuades him to tie a wedding thread around her neck, a ritual that makes her effectively married to him, though he does not realize the full sanctity.

Chanti returns to his duties and earns greater respect from the brothers for saving Nandini's life. Nandini starts emulating the role of a wife, caring for him in the way his sisters-in-law would, which unsettles him despite his innocence. The sisters-in-law notice the change and push the brothers to secure her marriage.

Seeing the closeness between Nandini and Chanti, the brothers' wives urge them to marry her off. Nandini insists that she and Chanti are already bound in marriage, but Chanti remains reluctant and ultimately flees to his mother for protection. The threat of violence hangs over the couple.

The brothers corner Nandini's mother to reveal Chanti's whereabouts, but her son intervenes to defend Nandini from their violence. The wives intervene and urge him to spare the brothers and instead protect Nandini, stopping a fatal confrontation.

In a moment of despair caused by her brothers' cruelty, Nandini contemplates ending her life. Chanti returns to rescue her, reviving her with his singing and reaffirming their bond. The crisis ends with Nandini reclaiming hope and strength together with him.

With Nandini recovering, the couple's bond endures the trials of control and violence. The film closes on a hopeful note as she begins to regain autonomy and they face the future together. The villagers witness a rebalanced life where love and courage prevail.
