Carry On Matron

In the bustling corridors of Finisham Maternity Hospital, the everyday drama of new life is punctuated by the kind of far‑capped chaos that only a Carry On comedy can deliver. The hospital’s staff—run by a stern yet caring Matron, a hypochondriac registrar obsessed with his own health, and a parade of eccentric doctors—must keep order amid the inevitable pandemonium of expectant mothers, over‑eager visitors, and a film‑star patient on the brink of labour. The setting pulses with a blend of slap‑slap humour and gentle affection, making the ward feel simultaneously frantic and warmly familiar.

Leading the mischievous side of the story is the charismatic crook Sid Carter, who heads a motley crew of would‑be thieves. With him are the long‑haired dreamer Ernie Bragg, the cheeky opportunist Freddy, and Sid’s own son, the reluctant but dutiful Cyril. Pressured by family loyalty, Cyril finds himself drawn into a scheme that involves donning a nurse’s uniform and slipping into the hospital’s inner circle. Their target is a rather unusual consignment—contraceptive pills—promising a profit that seems just as absurd as the hijinks that follow.
