Bloodsport III reintroduces Alex Cardo, a figure carried over from Bloodsport II, with the narrative largely told through flashbacks as he confronts the past. One night he wakes from dreams of the Kumite and checks on his son Jason, who is still awake reading. Jason reveals he’s been suspended after fighting three bullies in self-defense; [Alex Cardo] responds with understanding and suggests they bond with a camping trip.
During the trip, [Alex Cardo] begins recounting his former life: once a criminal and a prisoner, he trained under Master Sun and rose to champion the last Kumite. He explains that after his tournament win, he traveled to India to gamble, but a masked robbery changed everything. When the robbers were confronted by Alex, he defeated several of them. The casino owner then asks him to retrieve the diamonds for a mob boss named Jacques Duvalier. The lure of danger and leverage drives the decision toward a high-stakes reunion with the underworld.
At Duvalier’s dinner party, the mob boss unveils his top fighter, the feared The Beast, and tries to coax Alex into joining the Kumite. Alex refuses, arguing that he does not fight for profit. Enraged, Duvalier orders Sun’s murder to provoke him and force a confrontation, a brutal act that pushes Alex deeper into his past.
Seeking guidance, Alex reaches out to David Leung, who directs him to Makato, known as the Judge. The Judge trains him to harness mental and physical energy to rout the Beast and win the tournament, offering a path back to balance and mastery.
Duvalier doubles down, betting everything on the Beast and posting guards at the arena entrances. Cleverly, Alex slips into the Kumite by posing as part of another fighter’s entourage. The two combatants collide in an intense final, where the Beast’s raw power tests Alex to the limit. Drawing on his discipline and training, Alex overcomes the challenger with a decisive knock-out and, after the fight, chooses mercy over revenge, understanding that killing Duvalier would not bring Sun back.
Back in the present, the trip ends as Alex and Jason finish camping and drive away together, their bond strengthened by the stories of the past.
